Hello from Corpus Christi

Hello, New to the cummins world. Came from the hemi side.. I just bought a 2002 Cummins, 4X4, Ex-Cab, Short Bed. It had a 6" suspension and I added some 37"... So far this has been my dream truck, I drove to Houston to buy it. I am really happy with my purchase.... I hope you guys can spend my money for me, I'm looking into a few small upgrades.....

Welcome...

The '02 has a VP44 injection pump which is fed by a cheesy lift pump. The VP44 are typically reliable unless the lift pump goes out or the fuel filter gets plugged up. The best way to monitor this is with a fuel pressure gauge installed between the two pumps. The easiest way that I found to get that gauge was by buying an Edge Juice with Attitude monitor. I have had one on every diesel I've ever owned. It'll run you about 800 bucks(and also does everything a gauge pod on the pillar ever hoped to do and more), but a fuel pressure gauge alone will run you about 450. VP44's aren't cheap(1-2k dollars) and lift pumps are only about 100 bucks. I got 269,000 mi. out of my stock VP44 but only because of my ability to monitor the lift pumps output.

Also, pulling the silencer ring out of the turbo never hurt and while you have the intake tube out you might as well go back with a cold air intake.

Thanks... Few??

Thanks.... I already ordered the DSS cause the steering is Nooooo good. I'm hoping it helps. I'm having crazy problems with the tranny, which I have receipts from the dealer I bought it from that says its new.. I'm glad I bought a really good warranty - 3yrs unlimited miles, bumper to bumper coverage...

Is the Edge it came with a good programmer? I'm looking to add som off the line power. Nothing extremely crazy, but I want to move quicker off the line.... What's a good CAI?
