Smile Hello and thanks!

Good day to you all! I don't own a diesel but work for a dealership in northern Alberta where that is the bulk of our business. I keep my eyes open for a chance to learn something new, and have learned the most about the Ram from my customers.

Even though I work at a Chrysler dealership, I'm not really dedicated to any certain brand. I like to evaluate all the brands on what they have to offer, or have offered a year or two back. I like to watch and see if any of the brands learn from their mistakes but fix or make the next re-fresh/next gen better because of it. Of course you can dismiss the complaints of a... lets see. A Chev owner who swears that Dodge is crap based on a flaw that only happened to him a decade ago, for example. It goes all ways for all brands, doesn't it?

I orginally found this place while trying to dig up real testimonials/experiences from people who have a 5500, for a customer who is on the fence between a 4500 and 5500. It doesn't help that there were only 8-ish 4500's on the ground, while over 30 of the 5500 for western Canada. But that doesn't mean I stop looking for good information about the differences of the models.

But I found some threads were really lacking some information on just what is for offer, or why some dealerships do what they do. I don't think that the Hot Information Schedualing Restrictions for canaidan dealers is strictly for dealership eyes. That sort of thing helps you guys understand what is happening at the factory level and may influence your research so you know when to wait for -that- truck you want.

Wow this is long. Thank you guys for putting a gig like DTR together. I get quite a bit of enjoyment from seeing the real world perspective. Not just what my service manager talks my ear off with.

Thanks!

Jerith

Would you elaborate on this a little, please?

I was refering to a thread about which paints are restricted, particularly the flame red. The discussion was also about the mistake it would be to kill the historic red paint. Seems like the dealerships the posters in the thread approached were kinda useless. I could have piped up and just posted all the restrictions that were relevant.

Also, just reading a thread about why some manual shifters have L, or 1. One guy said that a 4.1 ratio is not available on the manual. I checked my build sheets and bingo, he was right. I wanted to post and confirm that. But didn't.

Those sort of things. I am by no means a perfect database of everything Dodge. But a little inside research could clear up some questions and would help folks who are rightfully suspicious that a new salesman is feeding you BS because he won't admit he doesnt know. Know what I mean? I'll admit I don't know, but will do my best to find out for us both.

I am a horrible salesman (manager). But, the customers who do buy from me do so because how I treat them. Not the usual slick talk and applying techniques for handling rejections when offered accident and health insurance and such. I've had occasions when a customer walks back into the dealership and gives me a tip. $100.00 in my hand, just because I treated him more like a friend and helped him make his best choice of all the senarios we might bump into. I've also gotten a filled gift-card from a guy I didn't even sell to. I offered him the best financial advice for the process, as I couldn't help him due to lack of stock and the time limit he needed a truck. So he got one the next day, but at a staggering 13%. He knew how much he got hosed, but it was his only solution for getting a truck so he could go to work the next day. The oil patch only has two speeds. He lived a town over, so eveually it might all work out between us.

Look at me, rambling again. Type at you all later, eh?
