How the heck does a boost fooler drop EGT's?
Just ike it says. How does that happen? I have a Superchips (tow mode), and I tow a trailer that is 7300 empty and 10300 max GVWR.

Why would the factory wastegate this air away if it gives cooler EGT's? It sounds like there is no negatives, which makes me think there is a negative, but I don't know what it is yet. Does the factory bleed this boost off just to protect the driveline from too much power? What does this mean for drive pressure?

The excess air that results from more boost does lower EGTs, but it's not free. The higher turbo drive pressure required to produce the excess boost increases the engine's pumping losses on the exhaust stroke. It also increases the work done during the compression stroke since the initial cylinder charge pressure is higher, and increases mechanical loading on the engine components since final compression pressures and peak firing pressures will be higher.
Therefore, the higher boost is going to cost a little in fuel economy, assuming that your engine wasn't grossly overfueled to begin with. That's a tradeoff I found acceptable when I was running my EZ and boost fooler with stock injectors - maximum pre-turbo EGTs while towing dropped from 1300 degF stock to 1100 degF.

Semi's dont have waste gates... they do however have engine brakes (Jake)..on mine if I spool up hard and let off quick ...she barks...not real good for stock turbos...
But when you mash on it ...have your headrest adjusted correctly

Thanx Rusty, that was radical, I needed to see how drive pressure changed. If you tow a big load often then it is a good idea with my superchips on tow mode, right?

Whoa there!!........Cummins, Detroit Diesel and Cat all have waste gates on their big truck engines. The waste gate is old technology and has been used for years. You need a "blow-off" valve on the pressure side of the intake system to relieve the intake pressure when the throttle valve is closed, like between shifts of a manual transmission. That turbo "bark" is not good for the vanes in the turbo and if severe enough will damage the turbo.

Nah, just kidding.
Basically it allows you to run more boost. The one major downside to a downloader is that even though they alter the fueling and timing of the motor they are not able to alter the air/boost side of things. The boost fooler basically just allows more air to get to the motor without setting codes or check engine lights. It does this by altering the boost signal to the PCM so that the wastegate does not just blow open. If you have fueling enhancements the wastegate will come open very fast!
More air, less egt's.
Plus it is cheap and has a 30day satisfaction guarantee if you don't like it. Really not much at risk if you want to try one out.

the boost fooler works like magic, when the boost is used conservatively, but MUCH higher boost on a stock turbo will raise egt's. when the turbo is out of its efficiency range, it will be overspeeding and only creating hot air. you'll still get 40 psi, but it will be a hot air charge.
the only way to run alot higher pressure while cooling is to install a turbo better suited for your application and power needs.

Hey all, i apoigize in advance if i hijack this thread. My question is: How do you monitor drive pressure? What exactly is drive pressure? is it the pressure that is held (boost) during regular drive use? thanks in advance
