My left front wheel is heavily coated with brake dust that extends onto the tire sidewall. But the right side isn't coated nearly as much. The truck doesn't pull when braking hard. Think this is a problem?

Hmmm, its the right side on mine, been that way since new,42k miles. Brake pads look like new. :)

Replaced my pads at 24,000 (new driver, had to test out the ABS several times and make sure it worked [laugh]). Both sides coated evenly though. Even with the new pads, both sides coat evenly.

Sounds like you are about a half bubble off plumb there ;D If it doesn't pull to one side when you brake I would think it must be OK. Do the pads wear evenly on both sides or just something you have now noticed?<br> Maybe it rained on one side or something. Weird just one side like that.

Both of mine do the same thing, red dust on rim and tire, really hard to wash off the tire. Looks terrible-6100 mi. has to be cleaned off once a week. Did not do it on my 1500. Oh well, I like washing the truck anyway.

You can always stop the truck the Fred Flintstone way... It keeps the dust down, but its hell on shoes... [laugh] ;D<br><br>Tommy

I think SFtopSGT hit it.<br><br>Do the pads wear evenly?<br><br>If the pads show signs of wear that coencides with the brake dust you see, then you may have a stuck calliper or other brake issue(s).<br><br>Check the pads...<br><br><br>Rich

Pads look allmost new on mine. There's dust on both wheels, just seems to have more on the right than the left. Mine only does it when towing now, did it empty when new for a few thousand miles.

Mines on the right side. <br><br>For Smokin J and the rest of you, Castrol makes a product called Super Clean Spray and Rinse All Wheel Cleaner. It will get that stuff off the plastic real good. You have to use a light brush with it. <br><br>Works good.<br><br>Dave

On a close inspection I am sure that you will find that the side with the dust also does not wear as evenly as the other side. Mine wears one pad on the dust side more rapidly. One day ;D I will fix it. These pads have been on since 90,000 miles and the truck now has 150,000 so it is not a high priority.

For those of you with the heavy brake dust on one front rim I have two questions:<br><br>1) Which wheel has the most brake dust, driver or pasanger side?<br><br>2) What type of rims does your vehicle have? Are they the ones that have the spokes in a swirl pattern, like an outboard motor prop?<br>

Dark brown dust on the driver side.<br>"Prop" style wheels.

My thoughts were that maybe the prop turning in different directions on the left and right wheels might be causing air to be drawn into the wheel on one side and out of the wheel on the other side.<br><br>I would then expect that the rim without the buildup of dust on the outside would then have a buildup on the inside while the other one would be clean on the inside.<br><br><br><br>
