heater core shot ??
last night i was going down the road with the defrost on and all of the sudden got the smell of antifreeze in the cab so i pulled over cheked under the hood an nutthin so got back in the truck and still same thing and then the winsheld was covered with fog so is the heater core gone and the truck is a 2001 so i done some searching and saw that u bout have to remove the whole dash if this is true how bad is this job and do you really need to know your stuff to do this???

Yes sounds like the heater core took a dump. You might get coolant leaking out onto the passenger side carpet soon. As for replacing it you cant really mess it up. Its just nuts and bolts just like anything else. Might be an all day project if you have never done it. Put hose clamps on the 2 hoses going to the heater core before removing the hoses the prevent coolant from leaking out everywhere. Also sounds like a good time to do a coolant flush. I would acually drain the cooling system before taking the heater core out.

It's not as bad as every one says it is. You do have to take the whole dash back but not out. The dealer calls for 5 to 8 hours I did one with a buddy last week in a hour and a half. The only advice I can give you is don't take out to many screws but don't forget the inportant ones, like the ones on the fire wall
