Heater Core going bad.

It has been a long time since my last post. I think that I have a heater core that is going bad. all kinds of funk on the inside of the windshield when I turn the defrost on. I am looking for the easiest way to get it out( other than a mechanic). Any tips or short cuts would be very helpful. Thanks in advance for the help.

Just had the evap done at a A/C shop, while they had it apart I had them put in a new heater core too. As the major cost to the job is the labor for pulling the dash. both Evap and heater core were less than $200. but the labor was $400.
