Heated seats?

Hi guys,

My wife really likes the heated seats on our surb. When I bought my new Dodge I wanted the slt package which does not offer heated seats. Does anyone know of an after market heater for cloth seats? And is there any problems with having heated seats with cloth? Thanks

I think Geno's Garage sell parts to make your seats heated.

Just installed the genos heated seats in my '08. VERY nice!

I installed them "upside down" with the heating element against the fabric. I like it this way because you get almost instant heat out of them.

It realy is not a hard install. I am VERY picky about my truck. I did it in two days, ( one evening and the other morning) I made mine look as close to a factory install as possible. Soldering all of my connections and all that. I exteneded the switch plug and placed the switches in the factory location just below the HVAC controls. I have the factory switches on order that will replace the aftermarket ones to give it a true "factory" look. This could easliy be done in an afternoon. I just took my time and did it right the first time. As Im getting older im also doing better quality installs on stuff like this.

As for getting power, it's kinda tricky on our trucks. I would up pulling power from the main harness for the power drivers seat. I cut into the harness and sldered all my connections to the apropriate wires. ( 3, one power, one switched power, and one ground)

On the passenger side I removed the kick pannel and tapped into the wireing harness that is dirrectly behind the kick pannel. There is only one switched wire(no constant hot) so I plugged both the power wire and switched power wire from the heated seat into this one. I used the seat bracket for the ground and mounting of the module via a few velcrow sticky tabs.

Let me know if i can be of any further help.

Beware of installing the factory seat heater switches, they have resistors in them and will not put out the 12 volts that most aftermarket seat heaters are rated to run at. I also installed them for a factory look along with aftermarket seat heaters and they do work but they will take longer to heat up and will not get as hot because the switches are putting out around 4 volts on high and the heaters are rated at 12 volts. The 06 and newer trucks do not have a control module for the heaters like the 05 and older. The module is integrated into the switch with the resistors. I had the wire harness in my slt behind the dash but the seat heater control wires did not go all the way to the harness under the seats. I was able to plug the factory seat heater switches in behind the dash and I tapped my seat heater wire on at the switch. It really is simple if you have the wiring diagrams to show you the wire to tap. I used dodgebodybuilder.com for my source of a wiring diagram. Hope this helps.

A friend of mine has a detail shop and started installing heated seat kits a few months ago. We're going to put a set in my wife's Durango tomorrow. His kits are by Check Corporation, I think. He said their kits differentiate between leather seats and cloth seats. The Durango has leather, but if they work well I'm going to consider them for my truck , which has cloth seats. We're going to set them up so they can be activated with the remote start.

I checked with the dealer and the factory switches are not cheap but nothing ever is at a dealer. Thanks for the info about the switches I'll use the one that comes with it.
