Heads up on Goodyear SR-A 235/80/17's

One of my Goodyear Wrangler SR-A 235/80/17's has a sidewall seperation. The manager at the Goodyear I went to said he had seen this before on this particular size tire.
You might check your tires if you have these, my truck is a dually. The seperation is on the tire about an inch out from where the tire and the rim meet.
The good news is I caught it before anything happened. The bad news is this size is back ordered, they don't have any around here(N Texas).

> That's DC for ya. Select a wheel size that ain't. Could have picked 17 1/2 and on up but, no, they decided to cut a deal with Goodyear and screw the customer.

The truck has been in production over one year and still no tires.

I personally think it's time for a class action lawsuit against DC and Goodyear for monopolistic practices.

Anybody out there screwed on the tire deal want to start a formal action/protest against DC and Goodyear?

They are still screwing the new customers and there are thousands of us by now.

They could have increased braking capacity without changing wheel size. But that would have involved engineering. Motorcycle folk do it all the time and their customers don't have to go to giant wheels.

The manager at the Goodyear store said he will have this size tire next week. I guess I will believe it when I see it. I enclosed a photo of the tire the back side was really in bad shape.

How many miles did you have on it?

It has around 25,000 miles on it. Looking at it from the other side it was not as obvious. I'll post a picture of the other side. None of my other tires have this problem so far.

I was happy to have Goodyears after driving Ford's with Firestone Steeltex's. ???
I do agree with Groucho it is disappointing to not be able to have aftermarket parts easily available. After almost a year of waiting I am still waiting for someone to offer aftermarket shocks for my truck.

Mine came with Michelins--do any of you think I'll have trouble getting snow tires? I didn't realize 17" was such a freak size (even though, come to think of it, I've never known anybody with a 17" wheel on their truck!

Re:Heads up on Goodyear SR-A 235/80/17's

The size in the thread is only manufactured to date by Goodyear. There is a good selection of 17" tires for SRW equipment. I've been waiting to hear back from Sales at Michelin about possible manufacture of this size, but I'm not holding my breath.

But you do NOT have a DRW 3rd gen. Dodge! Good Year, and I hear now General are the only ones making the 17" tires for the dually in the stock sizes. Both are two of the worse/poor quality brand tires on the market IMHO.

There has been several other posts and photos here at DTR and on the TDR site earlier about thease tires coming apart as the photos above shows.

I plan to go to the 19.5" wheels if no better tires are available soon. Am waiting to see the cost of thease. www.budnik.com/whatsnew.asp I called them last week and was told they would be out in 6 - 8 weeks.

Several forums over last months have had same reports with Goodyears.D.C.should have made trucks with 19.5s and gauges!!!They would have been WAY in front of the other TWO manufactures.
