Is this a relay to keep the low and high beams on at the same time?

That's what I was wondering. I thought maybe it was a harness for converting from normal to Sport headlights, but it says it's for 9004 bulbs? If that's true, I'm not sure what the benefit would be, really, since I seem to remember that the headlights are already run on relays.

This harness just runs the headlights from the battery straight through relays to the lights.
From what I was reading on this sight a while back the lights are run through the light switch and not relays.
These also use heavier gage wire over the stock wiring system to reduce voltage drop.
It makes the lights brighter than stock and keeps from burning up the headlight switch.

My understanding has always been that it's the dash light dimmer portion of the switch that causes it to burn out.
Keeping the dash lights brighter prevents this.

I'm not sure exactly but it does make my headlights brighter and whiter.

Hey guys-
I have the two trucks below and have put this kit on BOTH trucks. Also, I have both trucks hi & low beams wired together. Zero issues with the dual-hi/low beam on brights for the past 2 years on the 97.

In case you all don't remember, I just tied two wires together with a fold over scotch-loc in the wire bundle under the steering column. It takes about 5-8 minutes to do, and as I said, have not experienced any negitive issues to date. Also, the wiring mod provides a ground to a relay driven power source. I would say, however, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing this mod without drawing the current for both lights (hi & low) using the Summit kit. I believe the extra wattage in parallel would tax any factory wiring harness.

By the way, I also upgraded to the Silver-Star bulbs at the same time. The best place to get the two-pack is at Walmart for $30 bucks! In town, everyone wants 20-25 for ONE bulb!

If you do both bulbs and summit kit, you will finally enjoy your brights.

I was going to add that if you plan to wire the high and low beams together, this might be useful if it has bigger wire. The wiring might be different on 97 or 98 trucks, but the '02 FSM shows the stock headlights running on a relay in the PDC. I'd second Infidel's post on what burns out the switch; dimming creates a lot of heat, which would likely contribute to the switch getting burned out.

I do envy you guys living where you can use your highs--I've probably had my lights on high-beam a dozen times in three years. Wiring them together wouldn't do me much good. What I did have on my truck before I put the ARB bumper on was a set of Hella XL Auxiliary low beams, and those helped a bunch. They discontinued them, though, so you can't get them anymore.
