I have a line on getting a used head for a good price. I know that you can port and polish it for better flow, but what else can be done to it to make it perform better? How much better is the end result? I am looking to see if the costs of doing the work is worth the benefit. Someday I can see another turbo in the future, but it will be awhile.

You get better air flow so if you are pushing a lot of pressure the head will not crack. You dont really get a lot of power like from a gasser with this done. But if you plan on get some high hp numbers it would probably be worth the money, but i you are just going to do a little to your truck you might as well spend the money on something else.

Right said on the air flow..

Pretty much IMHO, headwork such as springs, keepers, retainers, are just cheap enough insurance to keep the valves in check and everything running smoother. Airflow is what helps to make the power, Now being that im running a totally stock head (not for much longer) with stock headbolts, gasket and all, i have no basis of comparison as personally how a stock head and not stock headed truck run... But with the proven more airflow, and "insurance" of proper head work, it might be worth it if you are looking for 500 plus or more power..

I made 450 on a totally stock head.... so if you are looking for something along those levels, you might not need the porting and polishing... but springs, marine gasket and studs are the best insurance....
