Have questions reqarding replacing head gasket on a '97 2500 with a 5.9. Two thicknesses of gasket are offered? Which one? Also does anyone out there have the torque specs for this job?

Get the thicker gasket it lowers the compresion a little but not enough to tell. Tourqe # are Step 1 all bolts to 66 ft lbs, step 2 long bolts 89 ft lbs, step 3 all bolts turn an additional 90- degrees, per Haynes Manual.

Always replace the head bolts. Also when you torque the head start in the center and work out. Front to back.Center front, center back.
There is a procedure to use.
