Wink HE351 installed.. vacuume whistle.

Hey guys I got the HE351 on and its making a whistle like a vacuume/boost leak. Im not sure where else it could be but the solonoid plug or the hose connected to it. Any ideas??

Always somethin....

Are you sure its not the normal turbo whistle?

What did you do with the WG and solenoid? Is it still stock?

Are you sure the turbo is tightly mounted on the flange? You didn't forget the gasket did you?
Could be that the wastegate or it's hose got damaged during handling...
You didn't forget to tighten the intercooler boot did you?

Ill recheck all those points.
No this isnt the normal whistle, its really shrill, like air escaping through a pinhole.

I didnt specify before but I had the solonoid plug tapped for the boost elbow. Its much cleaner that way and I didnt have to drill the turbo itself. I put some thread compound on the plug and the adjustment screw and it seems to have stopped the noise. Ill check those mentioned bolts though to be sure.

My new problem, its drawing much more air now and collapsing the vacuume meter about 1/3 to 1/2 on the airbox.... Time for an Air Raid CAI...

the airaid will ruin the engine do not do it. get a psm kit and get the new mopar filter. it is not easy to tap the plug. i will bet this is where your problem is

I ran an airaid on two different trucks and never had one problem. You just need to clean and oil it properly....

Do the psm airbox mod or home depot airbox mod. You can also retrofit the '04.5 and up aibox too. It has a larger opening in the fenderwell. The 351 is good to 450hp and so is the modded stock air box. I run a AFE PG 7 for more flow and better filtration. The AFE filter doesn't get sucked into the intake if it gets sucked full of snow or water. Paper filters do.

The Airaid MIT is superior to the PSM hose, IMHO. It keeps the lower directional vanes, thus negating the need for a TAG.

Under 450 rwhp a CAI is a waste of $$, the stock setup flows all you need. A good filter, and a MIT will increase throttle response, and flow smoother air.

AH us early truck guys don't have the directional vanes in our intake hose. I have a buddy with an '05 with the AFE torque tube. I will have to get his stock hose and try the Airaid MIT like you have. I am going to use his stock box too as the stock fenderwell opening is larger too.

Wanted to bump this............. this is exactly how my truck sounds now under steady cruise if making boost. The sound will fluctuate under full throttle. Only thing is, the truck is stock with no mods. Is the wastegate leaking, or do these truck have blow off valves. Was hoping to figure this out a little without taking to the dealer or Cummins service.

If it is a new sound check your rubber boots at all the transition points for ageing and leakage. Mine started to show frayed strands but still held boost when I changed them. Also if your intercooler has the plastic ends check them closely for any signs of deflection or leaks.

there was a 10 x better way to do the boost elbow than what you did. the solenoid is a fixed boost elbow with no voltage on it you had 20psi boost. with 12 volts on it you have 32psi boost. the center hole is pressure there is a side hole that part of the high pressure is bled back to the intake allowing the higher boost pressure. if you still have the solenoid i can tell you how to convert to fixed 32psi i think you will find your problem with the plug. AH64ID THE PSM kit has nothing to do with the hose between the turbo and air filter box. you are thinking of the cool hose and yes with the cool hose i use a t.a.g. we changed our air boxes over to the stock 6.7 boxes with the psm kit's before the new deep pleat mopar filters came out. but it is nice just to have to stock one filter.
