Having Rear-end being rebuilt, 4.10's or 4.56's

Having the trans rebilt and the rear-end. Putting a new locker in the Dana 70. Now it has stock LS with 3.56's. I run 35's. I do a lot of towing gooseneck trailers in mountain roads. I aslo want to do the ocassional truck pull and diesel drag. Should I go with 4.10's or 4.56's.

I would go with the 4.10's i would think the 4.56's would be too low for pulling a trailer down the pretty frequent. Just add a little more power for sled pulling, lol

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking 4.10's also but wanted to be sure. My 3.55 are just not working with my 35" tires. As far as more power, My next step is to do Turbo, Injectors, GSK, Dv's, and Timming. $$$$$$ It makes sense to do all those at one time don't you think?

4.56 gears and lower (higher number) require a new carrier (locker, limited slip etc.). With the 4.10 gear set you can use the same carrier and just swap the ring and pinion. You don't say whether or not you have 4 wheel drive, but if you do obviously you need to do a gear swap on the front as well.

If you got the $$$$, go for it, yes it would make sense to do it all at once, but that will be a big bill.

I still have 3.55's with 40's. I wouldn't bother putting in 4.10's with just 35's. 4.56's on a diesel should only be considered on 40" and taller tires IMO.

Go with the 4.10s. I have 4.56 and wish I would have gone with 4.10s. The cruising speed is about 70-75 max, because of the RPMs. I am thinking of going to 40" tires if they will fit to try and off set the RPMs a little. I do like towing with the 4.56 however, I don't tow enough to make it worth it though. You will be happy with the 4.10s
