How many miles on your truck when the hub bearings went out?

how many miles

Do you have on the truck? The first I would do is change the lift pump and put a fuel pressure gauge. what do the rest of you guys think?

I think I like this one.. My 01 has 52000 miles ( easy miles) and in the last year I spent about $4000.00 keeping her tip top. I replaced 4 rotors,4 calipers, all brake pads, muffler, tail pipe, both front hub bearings, rear parking brake cables, track bar, inner tie rod end, lift pump, all shocks, clock spring, rear diff. cover gasket, front swaybar end links. I think thats it..
It needs a front left door speaker now.
I don't know if this is too much but I think that a truck built this heavy should almost go forever without too may repairs, maintainence is one thing, but seems too much for me. My wifes car has 10000 miles more on it at the brakes are still almost half.

My 01 has 72000 miles on it. I replaced the lift pump( of coarse), the front brakes and rotors at 60000, the clutch at 70000 miles, the cam sensor, batteries, and the track bar( another common problem)
My front end is still tight. I still have original back brakes.(drums). I tow 75% of the time.

I've got a 2001 with about 114k on the original lift pump, just did the rear disc brakes (they were smoked) looks like a pad separated and wore the inside pad down to the metal. I did the front brakes around 80k and it was just time for them. I've done normal things such as tires, batteries and oil changes. I think this week I'm going to add a fuel pressure gauge to monitor the lift pump and change the fuel filter. So far it's been pretty trouble free. The transmission seems to be acting up, I'll be looking into that as well.

Man I dont know about you but that does not sound like (easy miles) to me. I have 170,000 miles and I have not done that much. I have dont my stuff to it and I diverse it because of the way I have treaded it. but since I quit being a typical teen with a truck I have not had to mess with it much. I dont know about yall but I am happy with my truck. Here not long ago I had to get the tranny rebuild but hey I knew that was going to happen so I have been saving up for that for a long time, well ok a little after I got it and found out that the tranny's were not the best on the automatic. But hey you treat that truck good I think it will treat you good also. I have pulled plenty of friend out of the mud the sand at the beach and pulled freaking heavy trailers and that thing has been awesome. Hey dont get discouraged treat it good and it will do the same to you. lol

230,000km

01 "2500" 4x4.

In this time.
outer u joints, rear u joints, hanger bearing
both hubs
rear brake pads and axle seals, due to lining separation
shocks front and rear
turbo ( lost front side oil seal )
front and rear t-case seals
trackbar update, steering box brace
10 stock lift pumps ( now GDP Walbro )
6 VP44 pumps ( thanks to bad LPs, this thing has been all over VP44s like a fat kid on cake )
3 airbag clocksprings
1 Clutch master/slave assembly
new IAT/MAP/ECT sensors, new oil pressure sending unit
1 windshield
1 set of bushings in the clutch/brake pedal cross shaft.

Still on stock clutch for now, but getting weak, starting to sound like perhaps another wheel bearing on the way out, and the hanger bearing is starting to wobble again.

This truck is not abused, merely works every day, carrying me, and the tools of my trade to jobsites everywhere. No hard driving, slow off road miles when needed.

What a jewel.

Look I am telling you that this truck couldn't have been used any easier unless you parked it in a heated garage. It had 1 load of patio stones on it and that was it in 8 years. It is used as a car thats it. The only thing is the first 4 years of its life it sat most of the time and no less on grass. Everybody makes fun as to how easy I treat the old girl. I guess I am just unlucky.
That is why I started a thread about" Beat it or baby it". I think the harder you use one of these trucks the better they like it..

Well I ve got over 220k on it so far
Lift pump @ 52k under warranty
Fuel level sensor @52k
VP44 @72k under warranty
fuel level sensor again @ 90k (didnt replace until 200k and used an aftermarket type sender)
I had an aftermarket trans installed at 110k (original was still going fine) so this one really shouldnt count as repair
VP44 again @ 140k
rear tailight bulb @ 150k
Map sensor @ 160k
blower motor resistor @180k
balljoints, all of them @ 186k had to get new hubs at this point because they couldnt get the olds ones off without destroying them.
rebuilt transfer case @ 195k
blower motor resistor again @205k
blower motor @ 205k (was seizing up and blew the last resistor that I put in @ 180k)
new driveshaft ujoints both front and rear as well as the front cardan joint &, center carrier bearing @ 210k
Cam Position sensor at 220k
VP 44 yet again @220k
ECM @ 220k
the above three items may not have needed to be changed because my problem is still there a consistent 341 code and 1690 both have to do with the cps timimg signal

Other than addon goodies and regular maintenance type items thats about it. My rotors and calipers are still original, 4 sets of tires. Several items on the list above I felt were quite acceptable mileage before needing to replace such as balljoints, transfer case (which gets used a lot) and the driveshaft maintenance (ujoints etc). If it wasnt for the fuel system I would be happy as heck with my repair bills. That and my current issue which has everybody and there brother stumped.

Wow, I guess I'm lucky, or something. 192,000 miles and I've only done this:

Trans governor $600
A/C evaporator $600
A/C compressor $600
couple sets of brakes and rotors $800 or so
1 set of Duralast Batteries $170
Walbro LP $100
2WD LO homemade kit $100
Plastic dash cover $150

Comes out to about 1.5 cents per mile for unscheduled maintenance. Some things I've learned to keep your truck running well:

Check your brakes often. You are stopping over 7000 pounds of metal each time you touch the brakes. A "pad-slap" is a cheap alternative when your rotors look shiny and your pads start to get low.

Get a good LP right off the bat and monitor your fuel pressure constantly.

Check fluid levels correctly and regularly (mainly trans fluid).

Listen to your truck while you drive and troubleshoot problems early. Like most machines your truck will tell you when something's wrong.

Always wait until the "wait to start" light goes out before starting.

Allow your engine to idle before shutdown to a temperature you are comfortable with to cool the turbo.

Don't let anyone drive your truck that you don't implicitly trust (of all my miles less than 1500 are by anyone else besides me).

Drive it like you stole it but remember that your now $10-18K truck will cost you over $45K to replace if you ruin it.

FWIW....

I guess I should consider myself lucky. My 2000 has about 50,000 put on it by me since I bought it used in 2004, and the vast majority of work I've done or had done by a shop on it has been enhancements, not regular maintenance items. The non-enhancement work is basically:

4 new shocks
Replaced batteries once
Bled the brakes once, replaced with good synthetic fluid
Replaced lift pump with a FASS
Changed fluids once in tranny, xfer case, front and rear diffs
Replaced starter solenoid contacts and plunger

That's about all I can remember ever doing on this truck.

I learned a long time ago to drive like I have no brakes, so I've never had to do a brake job on any vehicle I've owned except when I first buy it. Then I got my exhaust brake, which pretty much guarantees I won't need to worry about my pads or rotors for a very long time.

Well, I have had 110,000 well used miles doing a little of everything. I have some front suspension problems (minor stuff that we all deal with) and also had a split injector tip that caused a piston to turn to crap. I currently have the motor out now and am in the process of a complete rebuild. BUT, other than that one lightening strike of catastrophic proportions, I've been trouble free. I think the most problems I see with these things is when people use them "easy." These are heavy duty trucks and should be used as such. I don't have a diesel just so I can hear it roar. (Although that is a bonus )
USE your trucks and I'll wager that they treat you better.
Just my .02$

I should add that I had an ECM go last year and I put on an AirDog at that time. Also, oil changes, tires, brake pads, and this fall was the first set of batteries since it left the factory.
