who has broke a D70?

Trying to decide between a D80 swap or rebuild my D70. Looking to find out how many other people have tore up a D70 or who has done a D80 swap.

WHats wrong with it. I broke one also, but i broke an 80 too. If you can swap the 80 in but if not just build the 70 stronger.

I broke my shaft, it was a 32 spline. I have since upgraded to 35 spline Yukon shafts:

heres the stock shaft compared to the 35 spline Yukon

Lance, did you ever find out if a D80 SRW shaft would work in the D70?

i put a d80 in no more problems with 37 spline shafts and they are much larger than d70 and a detroit locker. its a little loud upon engagement but its is strong. no more worries

My buddy's truck broke one sled pulling when I was behind the drivers seat. Snapped the pinion right in half. Turbo was just getting spooled.

I broke my 70 coasting. I guess it had teeth chipped off of it, and I hit a bump one day that made the tooth jump up and catch between the pinion and ring gear, and I had some good chunks out of my pinion when i took it apart. I have another 70 in it right now, but I have an 80 i need to put in soon.

My opinion...The 70 is an ok axle if you keep the truck at close to stock power #s and if your not doing anything but pulling a trailer.

If you want to drag race, sled pull, run big power, the D80 is a smart idea.
