well what your asking is really pending what you want to spend and alot of other etc. etc. better than oem ones you can get at most part stores but they to will wear out just the same. www.genosgarage.com have bilstein shocks Im not sure if the DTR store have them or not. for a direct stock replacement go with these if your planning to lift the truck say next year save your money and get some replacement cheapies at napa or wherever locally so there is no shipping charge. but if not go with something that is going to make a difference for you on your truck. pending how many miles you have look at other things like sway bar links and rear if you have them. also ask this question but with specifics on your daily use but on the 4x4 offroad thread this way you might find someone that knows where there is a deal going on or have a set for sale. good luck

I just put Skyjacker Hydros on mine for around $180, but I don't know nor care how "smooth" of a ride they are compare to others. Just needed new shocks and bought some. So far they are better than the stockers. LOL

i really like the bilstein 5100 shocks i put on mine. here's their application guide. you can check around for best price. 4wheelparts.com tirerack.com are a couple i have used in the past (always looking for a sale!)

I've tried 3 different types KYB, Pro-Comp and bilstein,
Bilstein 125$
KYB(monomax) 100$
Pro-Comp 60-80$
For on road use I can honestly say that I think the KYB was slightly better, I was expecting so much more from the Bilsteins and was kinda let down, what happened was I ended up replacing my coils with Carli (awesome ride!) but did not order the shocks because mine (KYB and Procomps) were quite new and I could not justify spending another 500$ in shocks, long story short was my KYB's were too short, because of the lift the new coils provided. so I cut and lengthend them, then decided to replace them with the Bilstiens, put them on decided hey, does not appear to be much difference, So I drove around for a week with a bilstein on one side and a KYB on the other, truck did not seem to handle any different, except with the Bilsteins the wheel will "pound" when hitting a hole or speed bump. the KYB did not, but in all fairness, I did NO off road use, which is where the Bilstein is susposed to shine, it allows the wheel to quickly follow the uneven terrain. all my driving is on road, so I dont really need the off road capabilities. I'm guessing that the KYB wont do as well off road, but as far as on road they are quite capable!
as for the Pro-comps, I'm still running them in stock length form. to be honest the rear does not handle any differently than the front does when hitting bumps/train tracks/manhole covers. I priced them for the front and locally I can get them for around 80$ ea (3inchs longer than stock).
IF I had to do it again I'd use pro-comps all way round, for on road use
