How hard would it be to put an ISB in a Dakota,Durango,NG Ram,etc

Folks just out of curiousity, how hard would it be to put an ISB or my 24valver in a Dakota,Durango,Van,or NG Ram??

Just say you had extra money to fool around with and you wanted to do something really different.
Again this is just a "what if" question.
HAs it ever been done?
Would space allow it??

I have been reading a lot on how they may put diesels in the SUVs,and lighter trucks. I know, totally different animal but I like to learn about this stuff.

One more thing, does anyone know why Dodge never put a diesel in their vans?? I may need to get a diesel van in the future for my company truck and I wouldn't mind it being a Cummins. ALthough I did read that Dodge just did their last van!! :-

Thanks folks for any info??

There's been a Cummins in a Dakota (it holds worlds speed records) so it should fit in a Durango too.

All it takes is $$$$$~~

I think they did. Wasn't it a Ram 50 passenger van or something like that? Don't know if a Cummins engine was used though.

You can always ask DavidTD,,,,,, he had been driving a 12 valve powered Dakota that was put together by Jeff Garmon and himself. This truck was awsome until Jeff and the truck had a slight mishap. Thankfully,,,,nobody was hurt. I saw this truck run 12 sec 1/4 mile times at Atlanta Dragway. Other than the radiator being in the bed,,, this truck looked totally stock.

Ohh, a SUV with a cummins would be so awesome. Since you're doing a swap, why bother with a Durango, no need to go dodge, as they are quite spartan.... Might fit in a grand cherokee, or expedition etc. It's too bad ford's deal for the 6cyl diesel fell thru, because they were going to offer it in an expedition and in f150's. :-

There's a shop in tampa that has signs up, specializing in Diesel conversions, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. As posted above, just takes $ and a little creativity. Sure sounds like a cool project!!!

I would think that this swap would be anything but easy......would require LOTS of fabricating, frame strengthening, suspension beefing etc. It would be hard enough to put a CTD in a full size half ton let alone a dakota/durango.

Re:How hard would it be to put an ISB in a Dakota,Durango,NG Ram,etc

Seems like the real question is wether it would be practical. I have a Dakota and a Cummins. Eeeek, the Cummins engine is way bigger than the small block in the Dakota! Plus the front differential is mounted on the engine in the Dakota! I have wanted a diesel in that Dakota from day one but it just seems like too much trouble.
I did see a Detroit 6-71 in a ford pickup one day. Now that was crammed in!

Re:How hard would it be to put an ISB in a Dakota,Durango,NG Ram,etc

There is a ScoutII on the West Coast that has a 12V CTD shoehorned under the hood. He had to really upgrade the front suspension and was having trouble getting the radiator to fit properly with the intercooler. Of course, he had to do the Dana 60 center section upgrade on the rear to handle the torque.

I'm on school compuer so I don't have links to pictures but it is awesome.

If they can mount a Viper V10 in a motorcycle, everything else seems trivial ... ;D

Amen to that!
What would it be like to ride that thing? No way you can corner with that wheel arrangement. I looked up "heavy" in the dictionary and it had a picture of that bike!

Re:How hard would it be to put an ISB in a Dakota,Durango,NG Ram,etc

I read a lengthy article on it's design. Truly remarkable. 1400 lbs I think but it has a special suspension for ease of handling at slow speeds. They are actually considering producing it!
