Hard start with a twist?

I have read a bunch of threads on this topic and they are very similar to my issue with one difference. Mine is only hard to start once the engine is warm but been shut off for at least 15 mins. In the morning the truck starts immediately and if i turn it off like at a drivethrough and restart, it starts immediately. If I go pick up parts or to the gym or something like that it doesnt want to start after sitting for a little while. I have changed my FASS 150 filter and seperator, put additive in and also ran straight fuel. I have a smarty and just added the TNT REVO program and it is worse with that I think, and also have a quad race with commander. It seems to start the best completely stock but still has this hard start with all on or off. I tried to unplug the FCA and start it but it would not so I started it then unplugged it and it went to full RP(25k-26k) and idles very rough. When the truck starts good I see just over 1k when it fires then immediately jumps to the 5-6k idle pressure. When driving with the quad and TNT on i have tons of power and good idle with RP at WOT up to 26k+ and not loosing RP on long pulls, although with the TNT sometimes it wants to idle around 1000 while driving with the engine warm. There is no fuel in the oil. It did the same thing with my other smarty tunes, I just reciently added the REVO TNT. I have lots of ideas but wanted to see if anyone has had the same exact prob or knows what it is. From the other articles I have seen everyhting from FCA, LP, Rail presssure relief valve, injectors, inj pump........Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks, Nick

When it doesnt start the RP is below 1000... If you hold the starter in lonng enough eventually it will run ... Does this sound like FCA?

Also if it helps my RP has gone to max(26k) while driving under light throttle, but only done it 3 times in the last 5 months. Every time it had done it I shut the truck down and restarted and it was right back to normal. That is also why I think my prob id the FCA or rail press. sensor... Where is the bast place to pick up parts like this, I really dont want to mess with the dealer.

Hey Twisted,
My 03 started out like yours is running now. I worked on the FCA and the COV and it helped some but new injectors was the fix. Take a look at the COV if there is ANY dirt or debris in it it wont seal and it can cause irregular starting. One thing I'm not sure why your seeing such a high pressure now and again. It may be the FCA. Call your local Cummins dealer and they can help ya with a new FCA.
Good luck to ya,
Topper

Thanks... I am afraid it is injectors as well but was hoping it was not. If it is it will get some DDP 100hp or Flux 2's. I need them anyway I have a HTT 62/14 sitting here.

Topper how do you like those Flux 2's

I have talked to a million people about this and had a few others look at it including the dealer and some specialty diesel shops... No sensors are giving bad readings and the FASS is working fine... So its down to injectors.? The only thing I can think of is that one of them is letting fuel by to the return when itts hot thus causing the low rail pressure when it wont start? Can I do a return test to confirm this?, and if so that will only tell me that there is too much fuel returning to the tank but there will be no way to determine which injector correct? Guess it is time to upgrade inj's.

Thanks
