Hard Start When Hot

I just spent an 2 hours reading about how having to much fuel psi at startup can cause hard start when hot, but my fass pump is not turning on at start up. I am certain this is causing the hard start because I hooked a switch up to the relay for the fass and ran it constant and the truck started right up every time. So my problem is the relay is clicking like its not getting enough voltage. I have verified that the relay is good and once the truck is started it runs fine and maintains 15psi to the VP. Does anyone have any fixes for this? Any help would be great. Thanks

I dont mean to sound rude so dont be insulted but I cant make heads or tails of what you just tried to describe. I'm not sure if your FASS is working, isn't working, when the relay clicks, what relay, whats going on, yes/no the truck starts, you have some sort of switch, etc. I can help but only if you can be more clear as to what the problem is, what you did, and whats happening.

Sorry about that. Let me try to clear it up. It is the relay for the fass pump clicking. It would do this when the key is turned on to the run position before going to crank. It only does this at startup. Once the truck is running everything functions fine. After reading all the hard start complaints, I tried pulling the fuse to the fass and still had hard start. Since I knew the fass wasn't functioning at startup, I hardwired the fass so it was on at startup. With the fass running(has it should when it sees the crank signal) the truck starts just fine. I hope I did not confuse you anymore. Thanks

Also when I just give the truck a bump, the relay will just click for a couple seconds instead of run the pump for 30 seconds or so like it should.

My pump running is erratic with the key to run. 1st time it kicks to 15#. 2nd time, it doesn't kick if wait time has been short. Crank & no start will usually cause AirDog to run for several seconds. This is normal but I haven't worked out what causes the run/no-run situation.

So let me clear this up.....

When you'd turned the key on, the FASS would prime but stop. Thats normal.

When you'd crank the engine, the FASS would not pump. Thats normal ONLY if you have a Smarty re-flash or dealer re-flash to stop the fuel pump from pumping while cranking.

When you'd crank the engine, the FASS relay would also click while the FASS was not pumping. Not normal.

You eliminated the FASS relay and hooked the FASS pump directly to power when the engine is running, so now the FASS does not pump at any time except while the engine is running.

You installed a manual override switch for the FASS so you can turn off power to the pump if you want.

The truck now starts and runs fine.

Did I get it right so far? If so then I'm not sure what you're asking. Who installed the FASS? You also mentioned that it has a hard time starting when hot.....but I thought that the truck is fine. Let me know if we're on the right path.
