Had to wait on the grid heater for the first time this year.
i guess it is that time of the year again. i love when it is cold though, i am talking like lower then 30, i know that is not cold for some places but it is cold for here. one day last year it was about 10 degrees when i left work, the truck just went straight to high idle when i started it. I wish there was a way i could plug it in at work, but oh well.

I agree. That time is here to stay for a little bit.
Same thing for me. I started it up, without a problem. But noticed my interior lights were fading, then bright, then fade. Bummer, heater grids are on taking away that juice. About 5 minutes later, everything just fine.
But I hate seeing that FIRST time of the season.

Here in Mich we have had a few mornings under freezing it is that time of year grid heater pre-heat for 30sec and run for 3min or so after start. I kind of like it, really lets you know ya got a diesel.
Last winter I forgot to plug-in my block heater and HAD to start the truck at -13deg f. Sounded like a baby pig when you pick 'em up by the back feet, yeah and some midgets with ballpeen hammers were under the hood beating on engine. After the about 6 seconds of this (and me ready to shut it down) it quieted down and idled fine. My truck also starts into high idle somewhere in the 20deg range.

Had my first last week at ~ 45°......and thought it was pretty cool. Of course, this is my first diesel so I'm having all kinds of new, interesting experiences.
I love the feeling that the truck is kinda' bored - you know, drumming it's fingers, sighing mightily, wondering when we're going to do some real driving.
Came from a F-150, reg cab, 4.6L, 5 spd to this beast. Loving this truck.

Haven't drove my truck in two weeks due to ankle surgery and a NV5600, but I let my brother drive it noticed the fading of lights also and lower egts about 100-200 less than normal with PA cold coming on.

plugged mine in tonight, first time
supposed to hit 30 and the first heavy frost of the year...Now I can bowhunt without fear of lyme disease or brown recluse bites
I wish these heaters had a light or something so you know they are working

It hit 39 here in college station last night. I did a bad thing and didn't let the heater grid cycle before I fired her up. She cranked right up but didn't like it very much. I'll have to plug her in tonight as a treat.

Man I've been plugging mine in for about two weeks now. It's been averaging in the lower 20's during the dy down into the lower teens at night. I really like the fact I have my auto start. Start when I pour my coffee and by the time I head out the door it is blowing warm air and the grid heater has turned off. I think this am at 400 the overhead said 18 F.
