Had a Leaking Gear Case Cover - Tightened Bolts to Fix

I thought I would mention this issue a friend and I had.

We both had leaking front gear case covers. Figured the gasket was shot. We were going to replace them. We decided to check all of the bolts on it first to see if tightening them would help. There were three bolts all on the top of the cover that were finger loose. That is, they were coming out. We tightened them up and checked all the others, we also checked the oil pan. Cleaned up the cover and motor of oil and waited to see. That was several, maybe six or seven months ago. No leaks since on either truck. So, if you have a leaking gear case cover, check every bolt. Might be the problem.

I also had some slight leaks on the gear case. Mine were the case to the block. I tightned down the bolts when I fixed the KDP. A little more food for thought.
