I changed over to the Mobil 1 Delvac 5w40 yesterday and was wondering, what kinda oil change intervals are you guys running? I'm figuring 10k in between oil changes. Thanks

at 5 k pull a oil sample and that will tell you when to change it and you might want to consider a bypass oil system.

I do 10k oil change intervals.

Doesn't the manual recommend 15k if you're not towing?
I would think you could go at least that long on the Mobil as long as you change the filter midway.

I have a '99 and have been doint the following for over 200k 7500 mile filter change and 15000 mile oil and filter.

I'd even say with some of the newer nanofiber filters that you wouldn't even need a filter change to run 10K.

With the Donaldson Endurance filters, I'm running 10K with no problem at all. No filter change, no oil change. This is with performance injectors which increase the soot levels in the oil.

This is with 5-40 t&suv/Delvac 1 (I stocked up before they went all goofy with it).

With Amsoil, I'm running 25K oil changes, filter changes at 12.5K. I was skeptical of this at first, but had the oil from my 99 analyzed at 15K and the analysis said I didn't need to change the oil.

I run Amsoil and a bypass filter system. I change my oil once a year regardless of miles. There are stories of mega miles before changes with my setup but if I don't get under the hood at least once a year I go through withdrawls. I got pics of my setup in my gallery.

I chang mine evry 5K. But only because of my mods and the fact Im dumping alot of fuel. More fuel = more soot = shorter life span. Im sure I could get away with 10K but who knows. I could send off an oil sample but it would just give me something else to worry about. I agree that any oil bypass system is the way to go, I just havent gotten around to it yet.

Same here, 25000 with dual remote system.

Ditto here, Im running Mobile 1 fully synthetic and I change mine every 5k, just for peace of mind.

I am running regular old Delo with a 2 quarts of Mystic Viscid Lube. I have always changed between 10k & 12K. The truck is approaching 300K miles. The synthetic junk is over rated & over priced. Just another CON for consumers to fall prey to, IMO.

I just bought an 06 2500, the truck has 20k miles on it. I would like to change the oil and filter, for my piece of mind. What kind of oil and filter does everyone recommend?

I dunno what it is, but my motor makes so much soot the oil is pitch black at 100mi on new oil.
I ran synthetic over the winter to help startup oil pressure, but its too sooty to do that all the time =(
Anyone know why this is? Ring seal problem?
What is it about the new motors that lets them make less soot in the oil?

I'm running 25k with schaffer's 9000-- fleetguard filters and amsoil bypass filter. Last lab sample said truck was looking really strong & all wear metals at 1/2 of average. TBN was at acceptable levels.

What is it about the new motors that lets them make less soot in the oil?My understanding is they make more soot.
The new CJ-4 oil is designed to hold more of it.

Yes, more soot, as Infidel said.

Much to do with the retarded injection timing used to reduce NOx, IIRC.

Running a Lucas product full syn 5W20.
been changing at 10k miles

the way I figure it is the owners manual has 2 schedules one @ 7500 MILES and another @ 15000. I figure to split the diff. and change is @ 10k for the simplicity of it.

40k mile and no problems.

Keep in mind that if you run the new CJ, intervals may need to be shorter. They are mssing many of the qulity lube additives in the CI4. Check out the CI/CJ thread. The new oil is considered "Ho-Hum" at best, compared to CI-4.
This is especially true if you run the regular LSD diesel fuel, as the new blend does not deal with that very well. The new blend is also bad on lubricity, but that is another thread.
I think 5k is max for me, but I tow heavy. Maybe that is why Cummins recommends 4k or so for heavy towing. I liked the analogy another member had about people who go long intervals between oil changes, like how long you can go without changing a baby's diaper. Soot & blowby is why Oil needs to be changed.
