Guage lighting power tap

I am finishing the guage installation as I write this. I have elected to use a triple "A" pillar mount for Di Picol EGT, Boost and Fuel Pressure, but am having difficulty determining where to tap for power. I wish to use the dimming feature like the rest of the instument panel. The directions I have is for an '03 and they mention a harness with a net cover and an OR/wh wire. I have neither. I have removed the headlight panel for access to the harness. There is a plug with 6 wires. I was thinking about tapping off the dimmer resister in the panel, but after checking the service manual noticed that this is a signal input to the Electro Mechanical Instument Cluster (EMIC) and not a load driver. It appears that EMIC is a microprocessor controlled assembly that does a multitude of things including panel lighting and dimming. The panel lighting includes both Vacuum Florescent Displays (VFD)s and incandecent lamps. The method of dimming used is a Pulse Modulation, not decreasing voltage as with a typical variable resister. Of course the effect is the same with the exception that PM works with LEDs and VFDs and the resister thing will not, but back to my problem. I cannot determine which wire is the dimmer driver for the incandesent cluster lamps. I have the wiring diagrams in the service manual, but not the internal schematics of these magic boxes. Can anybody help?

Sounds like your reading a little too much into this. The orange/white wire should come right off of the headlight switch harness. If it's not orange and white it may be orange and grey.

I tapped mine right off the head light switch, and the wire was orange with black tracer. There are two of these wires going into the head light switch. I ended up doing the trial and error method as to which one to use. One will not dim.

just use a needle or st. pin to check the wire with a volt meter... if you get a variable voltage to 12.+ volts - that should be it...
