So I don't drive my truck that much, pretty much the wife's commuter. It is a 2006 short bed 2500 with 35k miles. She showed me when you approach a stop and step on the brakes hard it makes a noise. I would describe the noise if it was on my jeep to a loose track bar or control arm bushing. Wondering if it is just the age or are there any known bushings that wear out. I most likely will crawl under it and re-torque all the bolts around the rear axle. I am not sure if it from the rear, but sounded like it during the short drive she took me on.

Looking at the FSM I see there is a swaybar in the rear and rubber bushings on the leaf spring ends. Not sure if the leaf springs are something that needs to be tightened as preventative maintenance .

Any help or insight on this would be appreciated.

Did you check your spare tire and make sure it is not loose? That will give thump noise when coming to a stop if loose. Grinding noise sounds more like brake pads worn out.

My wife calls it a grinding noise, to me it is a deep squeak sound. It happens at the very end of coming to a stop, like the last inch or so if you add some extra brake pressure after rolling normally then bouncing on the brakes just a tad. might be nothing, I don't drive the truck enough to be annoyed by it. She drives it every day and has noticed the sound and remembers it not being there before.

I'll take a look at it, I did not think of the brakes as something it could be, but it does happen when braking, so thanks for the suggestion. I'll check the spare tomorrow.

Sounds like your rear brakes are due for some attention. Most likly the rotors are heat glazed and the pads are chattering under hard brake pressure.

My truck makes the same grinding noise also. I checked all my pads and they are fine. Is their anything that can be done about the heat glazed or is that something I don't need to worry about.

I don't get on here much but saw I had never added any closure on this. Turned out to be the loose spare causing the noise when braking (at least my noise). So Thanks!
