Grenaded Turbo...
Well, it looks like i'll be replacing my turbo a little sooner than intended...Had to get the truck towed this evening
On my journey back from the parents house for the holidays I had noticed my truck making funny noises when i'd let off the pedal and lost boost. Couldn't figure it out... Today, a couple days later, I turned the truck on and notice notice that at idle it was a LOT louder, almost like a bad exhaust leak.... Looked over my exhaust system didn't see anything.
I regret driving it. Needed to get somewhere and ended up not getting there at all...
Continued to make the funny noises off boost, when spooling the noise was completely gone. Eventually got worse and worse and I only managed to park it off the highway in time before I heard something let go and get Reaally loud! Pulled to a stop and the truck struggled to run and eventually choked itself out. Engine continues to start over and want to run, but can not keep running...right away I figured the turbo was seized.
I haven't got a chance to take things off and look around, its too dark out and I don't have a garage nor lights, so i'll have to look in the morning to make sure the problem doesn't lie somewhere else....
One question though, If it is the turbo, what can I expect damage wise? Im hoping if there were pieces of metal breaking, that it was on the exhaust side and not going to my engine
On a good note....maybe a new turbo!
On a slightly bad note....I don't know what turbo...? hx35? hx40? It would be nice to go to 4 inch dp...Cooler tubz are on order and I think my truck would appreciate the flow

don't worry man, i know how ya feel. the same thing happened to my hy35 i had on this thing, but now in my mind, it was a good thing cuz then i upgraded to the he351 and it is a much better turbo. I love my he351, I'd look around for one, it would be a great and cheap upgrade and i'm sure you'd be happy with it!

I've heard much talk of the He351. I need this truck ASAP so the work that would be involved to find and fit the 351 would make it hard to do. Once monday rolls around I will make a call to piers diesel and see they have to say...I'm kinda leaning towards the piers s300, I will be putting 5x0.14's in my truck further down the road so I may as well have the turbo ready and waiting for them...
