Unless something has changed, there are none on 2WD trucks, and only 2 on 4x4's on the tie rod ends.

I have a sticker under the hood on top of the radiator support that mentions to grease the front drive shaft universal joints. I looked...Didn't see any grease fittings.
I must be blind?

Other than that the only other grease fittings are at the tie rod ends.

I've looked to, never saw one.

Guys,

I have located the fitting in question on my 06, but frankly do not know how I am supposed to grease this metal thing that looks like a round fish-eye. It does not move, and I cannot get the grease injecter needle to slip beside it or anything. It appears to my uneducated eye that all I can do is pump grease on to the outside, not actually into the fitting. Any other tips you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

OK, surely someone has lubricated their front driveshaft. Take a minute and give me a clue how this is done.

Thanks

If I get a chance I will make a copy of the grease fitting I bought at NAPA for the U Joint. The grease fitting I bought does not go inside the small hole but rather you hold it firmly against the hole. It works great. I can take the picture but not sure how to post it to this site so it may be tomorrow before I get it posted.

Given that I do not know how to post pictures to this web site, I thought I would just give you the NAPA part number for the "needle adapter" that I use to grease the front drive shaft. The part number is 30248.

I just went to the NAPA web site and entered part number 30248 and it came back with a drill chuck. I don't understand because I still have the package for the needle adapter. If someone will guide me to the instructions for posting a picture, I will post a picture of the needle adapter.

Go to NAPA or any parts store ask for a needle fitting for your grease gun. Get a flash light & turn front drive shaft. If I remember right lay with your head pointing to the front of the truck. Its hard to see even after I found it the first time. The needle does not go into the hole, you just hold it against the spring loaded ball in the fitting.

Not sure what PZM123 meant. I bought the needle fitting before I bought the needle adapter fitting. The needle fitting was so small that I accidently stuck it in my finger; however, it would not fit in the grease zerk. Consequently, I kept looking for something that would work and finally found the needle adapter fitting. The needle adapter fitting is tapered on the end to fit perfectly against the opening on the u-joint. The needle adapter has a small hole on the tapered end. As you pump the grease the pressure pushes the ball in the grease zerk open enough to allow the grease to enter the u-joint. "All" grease goes through the hole without making a mess on the outside of thed u-joint. The only other suggestion to make the job easier is to have a one-handed grease gun so that you can hold the needle adapter against the hole with one hand and pump grease with the other hand. Wal-Mart sells a one handed grease gun for about $25. There may be other ways to grease the u-joint but I know for sure that the needle adapter works.

PZM123,

You make reference to the fitting being spring loaded. I must be looking at the wrong thing then, what I'm looking at is a round, shiny "ball", but it does not move, even when I push on it with a screw driver. What am I missing here?

Thanks

I figured out why the part number I gave for the needle adapter did not show up correctly on the NAPA web site. I bought it at Car Quest not NAPA. I bought the needle fitting at NAPA and could not get it into the grease zerk on the u-joint. Again, the Car Quest part number is 30248.

Burlhall,

I appreciate the guidance. Reference has been made to the fitting being spring loaded, but I have pushed on mine with a small screwdriver and it does not move. That is why I am having trouble understanding how the u-joint is to be greased. I have gone to my local dealer and they said since there was no zerk fitting, there was nothing to lube, even though there is a sticker under the hood and in the owner's manual directions to lube the front axle.

Can you offer any other advice? I plan on stopping at Car Quest to look at the adapter you suggest.

Thanks again.
