Got the new rear bumper on last night
For the first year, my poor truck was a damage magnet-I got rear-ended at a stop light, which dented the bumper; In a complete stupid attack I managed to rub the side of the bed against a concrete pillar in the parking garage at work; and someone put a fairly large dent low on that same side (and then took off) in a Lowe's parking lot. All of this stuff was low-speed and didn't really effect the truck's useability, so I waited until now to get everything fixed.
I hated to get the bodywork done and then put a dented bumper back on, so I opted for an 8" drop center chrome bumper from Luverne Truck Equipment; eyeballing the clearance made me think it would fit. It did, with about an 1/8" clearance above the hitch. No way to get a hitch ball on there, but I'm not worried about that.
The bumper looks like a pretty nice piece. It's heavier than the stock bumper, all metal all the way across, and the mounting brackets are huge. At 7/16", they're about three times as thick as the brackets for the stock bumper. The only downside is that I lost the convenient holes for my aux backup lights, so I'll have to use a little ingenuity in figuring out how to get those back on there so I'm not backing up blind all the time.

I took some photos, but the sun was behind me so they didn't come out too well. I'm going to have to try to take some better ones later and put them in my photo album so they can be a bit larger. I've attached the best of the bunch:
