Got the hot unlock and have questions

The level 6 hot is very powerful, but it brings a couple questions. The main thing is a surge of power at about 2000 rpm's and light throttle. This starts on lvl 1 and increases with the higher lvls until very noticeable on 6. It does this when trying to build boost on the line as well and therefore, will not burnout. The other thing i here is a slight rattling at high rpms and hard acceleration. Any ideas? Fuel pressure? Rail pressure? Lift pump? I did change the oil and fuel filters with no difference. Thanks for any help!

I have the "hot unlock" but havn't experienced any of the problems with the power curve that you are, sorry I can't help you any, the only negative I noticed once I got the hot unlock was high EGT's which I fixed with twins. Sorry I couldn't be any more help.

Would an airdog or fass fix the surge or could it be something else?

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge yet? I noticed on hot the power was not smooth, but an abrupt hit, like a 2 stroke dirtbike. The only way to know if you need a fuel system is to put on a pressure gauge. You will probably need one but my stock lift pump kept up with the hot, just not added pressure with the hot. Once I put on my walbro and set it to 28psi I never had a worry in the world about running out of fuel.

I would probubly put it back to stock and put some gauges in fuel and rail so you can really see whats going on. i do know from read and my own experience that any thing over 60hp it really drains your fuel pressure down because the stock pump isnt that strong. if you cant afford the gauges you can always bring it to a diesel performance shop and have him go through the programs and have him let you know what levels to use and what not and if its your pump or rail causeing the probems. plus if its not the fuel pump it can save you up to $800. so i would atleast put the gauges in just for some insurance and reliability so you dont kill something that could have been evoided by a $200 gauge thats why i have my truck stock now until i get the gauges.

I have a similar problem with my truck but it does it on all levels. However the "power creep" as I call it, is more noticable the higher I set the juice.

I believe it may actually be a problem with the APPs on the truck. A bad spot in the potentiometer I'm thinking.

I am not sure about your surge problem. I have both the Juice with Hot and a PMT with a Custom Larry tune on my truck. The edge definitely has a much smoother power curve and more usable power in the rpm range you are reffering to.

As far as the tick or knock you hear. I would be willing to bet that it is injectors rattle or timing rattle. Definitely get a FP gauge. I would think that you would be alright on RP as long as you are running stock injectors.

hey guys, i had the hotunlock and the edge j/a, actually it was one of my first mods.its was a pretty good set up.but it ran a little hot for me, hitting numbers like1575, and 1625deg, at WOT going across the traps.so my friend talked me into the smarty, i was hesitant of anything else.he downloaded it for me at the track, and OMG my egt's were almost 200 deg lower and i ran 6 tenth's better.and now im knee deep in it all.it will solve all your surging issue's at 2000rpm. its very very smooth.good luck

Ok, we all agree that the smarty programmer is great but come on man everything that you posted had nothing to do with his question. We all dont want to sale our chips for half what we payed for them to pay twice as much to have a smarty. An as for 6 tenths better, thats pretty hard to believe. I raced a guy with an 06 an he had a smarty and he made me turn mine down to level 3 to race him cause he had his programmed for 90 horse so i did and still walked him and his was an auto. So what happened? As for the question, i would say you need a better lift pump.
