What are my options to eliminate possiblities of hitting the rear corners of the cab if I buy a 2nd gen short bed and install a gooseneck ball? How do the extenders that you can buy? Any negatives?

I'm selling my '97 today so I'm in the search for a new truck again.

I use to own a 2000 short bed Dodge and I had no problem pulling a gooseneck with it.
I also have a 05 Ford F-350 short bed and have no problems pulling a gooseneck.

As long as your trailer has a V nose you shouldn't have a problem. If you have a big square nose trailer I wouldn't do it.

OK, what about 5th wheel trailers using the gooseneck to 5th wheel adapter?

It depends on how the 5th wheel is setup. My old 5th wheel I pulled with a shortbed with no problems, but it had the pin extending out in front. If the pin is underneath the neck, I imagine it would be a problem. With the ball moved back, you might still have clearance though.

A friend of mine had the pin on his GN extended 10" by a certified shop. Don't know the cost but it wasn't a lot >$1000.

I see short bed trucks pulling 5ers all the time so I wouldn't think it would be a big problem. Probably best to talk to your RV dealer. You might also want to look into B&W hitches you can get a 5th wheel and a gooseneck all in one hitch. Looks like a slick setup.
