Goofy steering

I just put a deposit on a 2001 Ram 2500. I really wanted a diesel but the guy shot me a deal I couldn't pass up. It's got issues and I don't want Dr. Phil working on it. The steering is stiff but I suspect that's because of the ton or so of dirt plus several bags of concrete in the back. (It's got good traction in the snow though.) However, it also has a pull when you hit a bump. It feels like the track bar is worn out. I suspect the ball joints might have some wear as the chassis has 191K on it.

Suggestions on parts and such? I just want this truck for towing so it may not have a huge amount of weight in the bed. Are there better solutions than stock for durability and ease of maintenance?

You'll have to climb under & look to find what is worn. Ball joints, tie rod, track bar, steering box are all talked about in detail. Mine wandered dangerously after all parts were replaced. It was caused by too much tire pressure. 65# all around fixed it. (Geolander ATS but they sure ride nice now and never tale more than 3/4 oz to balance.) Stiff steering could be the valving in the steering box. Don't buy an AGR if yours is bad.

Like stated above see whats worn out then buy only quality parts

Like Timken bearings and Moog suspension parts ,a DSS helps a lot with the wonder. also try putting in fresh synthetic power steering fluid it seems to help a lot of trucks with stiffness
