I have done a search and it seems that some people say it stinks and others say its fine for a decnt level of hp,

I also tried to find the dyno sheets from one of the guys who was on the site a long time ago that stated he made 600hp with one, the reason I ask is because I had to put one back on my truck due to a lil accident with my Mega Cannon,

any way even with my Silver Bullet the truck runs fine, egts are no different (as best I can see with my analog gauge), and the turbo seems more behaved, instead of that lil bit of lag and then poof it lights, now it seems like a smooth transition into making power, I pulled the minder down only a bit on a nice pull up to about 45-48 psi, I also did the mod into the cowl and the noise isnt too bad, so in a nutshell I was just wondering can this thing actually work decent even with my large single? I drive daily with my Catcher and for the most part the TST off, Thanks.

I'd be scared running anything over 40 psi with a stock box. Its all plastic and pretty restrictive. I guess it depends on what filter is in there and if your happy with it. I personally threw mine in the trash when it put my icebox on. No way that thing is ever getting close to my truck again.

I'm sure others will chime in with "proven" statements, mine is just my opinion.

I hear ya, I was just curious as to what others had to say, I was on the D-Max website and they have the same discussion going on, guy dynoed 4 or 5 intakes back to back and none made more than 3 hp over the stock box and a couple made less, I will be buying a used Scotty from a friend so the stock box wont be on for too long, im just shocked it runs as good as it does.

If you do use the stock box, take the oval piece of tube that connects the box to the fender out. On my 97 it would suck the filter change indicator down with it and peg the EGTs, we took out that piece and it seems to work very well. I am not recommending it over an after market system but it is better that stock configuration. I have also seen people drill holes in the box like swiss cheese.

The problem I had with the stock airbox was having to grease the rim of the filter element and the box to get a decent seal against dust.
A filter enclosure that doesn't seal out dust is a huge problem.

My Scotty II doesn't have that problem

A quick and easy check for a stock airbox is to pull your filter and take the truck for a drive. I've done that. Stock airbox seems fine. Turbo whine is very audible. with the Purolator paper and foam element in place, no turbo noise and egt's are higher. Takes longer to cool down. Not as much boost.
With the air filter removed, the turbo spun up really, really, really quick, boost shot past the 30psi gauge (now I have a 60 installed) and egt's never got above 900.
If the drop in elements flowed air that well, I'd get one. I'm looking at an AFe Stage 1 PG5 that a local place has.
