Good Deal?

I was going to be buying a 1997 3500 dually diesel. It has 240,000 miles with the five speed tranny, 4wd,towing package, sport no dents with a matching truck cap. Asking 11000. Deal yes or no how much is it worth.

kbb.com is always a lower price... use them.

KBB seems to be used both ways, people buying use it to drive the price down, people selling include all possible options to drive it up. I usually look at it but then go on cars.com and look up asking prices in my area, which give a decent idea about the offerings and what sells and not.

Numbers sound askew a bit. I sold my 2001.5 for $18,500 with 83K miles.

That was after two months of actively marketing it for $20 (+).

I can't see spending over 10 G's on something with a 250,000 miles.
Just my opinion.

A lot of what's on KBB is location dependent. But that price seems quite high. I only gave $12.5k for my '02 HO 6 speed with 134k on the clock. Then again, mine's a 2WD 2500.

Ask a bank what the loan value is. Banks aren't in the business of taking risk so try to buy it close to loan value. I gave 10.5 for mine.

It's also in Texas, where used truck prices are rather depressed compared to many other regions.

I gave $9875 for my 1997 2500 with 181,000 miles and in need a few things and I think I got a good deal for my local market.

If that truck doesn't need anything, $11k would be a reasonable price in my neck of the woods.

Yep. That's why on KBB.com you have to provide a location before they'll look up a value. Besides, almost everyone drives a truck in Texas.
