Well, better shifting for one. Second is improved line pressures to help hold the clutches... There are other improvements that mostly won't be felt but aid in tranny function and longevity.

I would like to but don't think I'll have enough scratch to do it.

If I may add aquestion on this subject.

My tranny shifts as well as can be expected for the 48 RE, I just need something to lock it a little tighter when I get on it with 100 hp Jr tune.
This isn't that often, mostly run around on the Perf tune.
Just hangs the rpms about 3K for just a second in 3rd.
Then shifts well into high.

Would a better VB help this situation??
Not ready to drop a grand or more on a TC yet.

Is replacing the VB really necessary opposed to putting in a shift kit like Trans Go?

Well i had the transgo valve body done and it helped none on that dang ole shuttle shifting crap that drives me up a wall. But the shifts in my opinion are more noticable and you can tell when selecting gears like say from Reverse to Drive it finds them way faster.

Just installed a hts valvebody and can tell a major differance in the way the truck shifts. quick firm shifts, no longer the mushy slow shifts.

VB won't do much without a TC besides the early demise of the stock converter

I agree with megaramasaur, save your money and at least do the vb and tc at the same time. imo they are two of the weakest links. the vb won't do much good without an upgraded tc.

And if you pull heavy with the added pressure it will make it more likely that you will snap the input shaft when the TC locks.
