GMC 360hp @ 660TQ WOW! ??????

I wonder what these things will be rated to tow. This is what I expected GM to do at the first sighn that DODGE would be bringing a new/revised Cummins Diesel to the market- - - - - - - now Dodge will need to up the HorsePower and TQ ratings that they are going to put out with the new 6.7l. 310hp and 610tq will not get it with a new BIGGER ENGINE????? Less Horsepower and the same TQ. Dosent make any sense, but I think that when DCX brings out the big Cummins it will make the 370hp and the 780TQ that we all want!!!

But at what cost to fuel mileage, the new chevy trucks aren't getting that great of fuel mileage.

Well, when you start to play with the big numbers you will have to settle with less mpg! I just priced a new 2500 LT3 4x4 with everything that any sain human would need and it came up to 45,780- - - - - - - I priced a new Mega Cab and it came up to 46,860!!!! I would like to see the Cummins at a higer power, I really do not want to BOMB one to get those TQ numbers!

jeez, if the trend stays like this, in 10 years the big 3 will be offering diesels with 5000lbs of torque

I got a chance to drive the new duramax a few weeks ago and I was definitly unimpressed. On a dyno i am willing to bet the cummins makes more HP and torque. One thing I was really impressed with however is the transmission. A definite work of art and perfectly matched for diesel applications.

I test drove the new duramax with push button shift and loved the tranny but hated the motor. It just doesn't feel as powerful. But I would love to have that 6spd auto with push button shift.

Test Drive

I'm going to go and test drive one probably this week to see what it really feels like. I have a buddie that has an 03 2wd with some small mods that is pretty stout- - - - - - -I have test drove 10 or so Cummins and I have owned 2 so Hopefully there will be a difference in the seat of the pants feel- - - -The asian 6speed trans looks like it will be a big help to the Cummins TQ. Hopefully they put a TC in that can actually hold the power!!!!

(500HP)- - - - -Where did you get this from??????

Peak numbers, and useable numbers are totally different things... The CTD's torque will come on at 1200rpm, and hold until you let out of the throttle. The D-max will be finally gaining power at 2k rpm's. I know they put the D-Max's torque down low on the graphs, but go drive the 2, and you will clearly see which has the best low end torque.

I sell both, and make no mistake, the Chevy is a contender. The tranny is awesome, and the engine puts out some good power. A new Duramax is a lot like a new Cummins, they are tight and require a pretty good brake in period before they really get up and run. If anything, the new 06' Duramaxes I have sold are doing a little better on fuel mpg than the new 06' Dodge's. The 06' Dodge's just plain suck for mpg. Seem's like they get worse every year. On average I am seeing 1-1.5 more mpg out of the LBZ Duramax than the 06' Dodge Cummins. And quite truthfully, as many ball joint and u-joint problems as we have been seeing with the Dodge's lately, I think if I were to buy a new truck today it would be a Chevy. I have a hotshot trucker I sold and 02' Duramax to and he is over 260k now and all we have done is put in one set of injectors under warranty. That is nothing really though because we have been putting a lot of injectors in the Dodge's too. As I said, make no mistake, it is a contender.

we have a 02 duramax on the farm, it is my 80 year old dad's pu. he has had stick shifts his whole life. clutch went out at 25k. only pulled maybe 3k with trailer and large loads . had to replace flywheel (dual mass can't machine it) $1850 at gm no warrenty on that stuff. I have a first gen. cummins 5 speed i can let the clutch out in 1,2,3 gear and off it chugs, no being carefull about it. this duramax will die unless you slip it a bit. I kill it a few times when i drive it and so does my brother who allso drives a cummins stick. duramax goes great loaded, unloaded milage is 22 on the freeway, loaded around 12. when new we loaded it up to max gvw and pinion wrap caused driveline to dance around and the stick shift to sway back and for a couple of inches. new overload with a rubber snubber fixed that, not the dealer.

I should be more specific. A Duramax with an Allison automatic is a good set-up. A Duramax 6-spped is not worth a darn. As farmer 0_1 pointed out they have a lot of clutch and flywheel problems. I don't know why anyone would want a manual anyhow when you can have a tranny like the Allison? A Duramax/Allison will run circles around a Duramax/manual, loaded or empty.

This power contest has got to stop. These engines have plenty of power as it is. I think they should concentrate on making them more fuel efficient. I would like to see 25+ MPG out of these trucks. If guys want more power, there are plenty of upgrades that will give you all the power you will ever need.
