I am at the end of my witts here, I have searched high and low and I cant seem to find the answer to a seemingly simple question... does my CTD have glow plugs, and if no, what does it have?

Real diesels do not have glow plugs ;D. Thus, your 5.9 Cummins has no glow plugs.

Our trucks have a grid heater which heats the air when certain parameters are met.

Aren't glow plugs used in those tiny little Cox airplane engines to make them run?

And if so, are those same glow plugs the ones used in the Strokers ;D?

I wouldn't knock a glow plug system ......

my dad's 79 landcruiser had glow plugs and that pig would start at -40 not plugged in

but the grid heater system seems to work well too .......

we started my grandpa's 93 cummins at -30 not plugged in the one time (the plug in cord was no good).......

My friend has a ford pre-powerstroke international diesel and the glow plugs are toast. He uses just about anything to get it started, wd40, ether, whatever. Mike works as a grip in the movies (see his name as best boy grip on new Eddie Murphy film I Spy) One day he had no ether or wd40 so he went to the hair/make up trailer borrowed some "Streaks and Tips" from the hair dresser to start the thing up. glow plugs are junk but so is my grid heater. think i need a new relay. one wire stays hot at all times the other works good. so far no starting problems other than the infamous white smoke problem.

Right now I just wish mine would start. I really don't care about smoke If it starts I'm happy.

BigBlackDodge is absolutely correct, no glow plugs. There is a grid heater in the intake.
