Glacier Diesel Fuel Boss- Review

I recently purchased a Fuel Boss from Uncle Lary right here on DTR. Can't say anything but good about the shipping and how Lary handled everything. It was here quick and it was nice to finally talk to you Lary! I've thought for several years on what type of fuel pump I wanted to spend my money on. I've looked at Airdog, FASS, and other lower buck options. All electrical and all doomed for failure from the get go. Electric fuel pumps, I've spent many many moons as a mechanic and see how reliable electric fuel pumps are. In those many years as a mechanic I have also seen mechanical gear type fuel pumps that have 15,000-20,000 hours on them and we would replace the brass bushings just because that's what was involved in a "complete overhaul".

The reason for my purchase. I was coming home from a job and noticed the fuel pressure gauge dreadfully low, well lower than normal dreadfully low due to the worthless pile of schmidt that Dodge called a replacement for my original worthless pile of schmidt, you know the "intank pump". So a phone call to Richard at Glacier to pick his brain about the pump and then Uncle Lary was kind enough to remove the required greens to aquire said pump.
I've been lurking on this great site for around three years so figured it was time to help out.

I requested 2nd day shipping. Running a welding rig and it sitting around in working condition without the phone ringing is fine, but in a non driveable condition and the phone call comes in to make money....then we've got a problem. Got a phone call from Lary, he said he had to check with Richard and he had one ready to go. Two days later UPS drops the pump on my door from Washington State, AWESOME!!

I rip into the box, a phone call earlier to Richard explaining that I ordered it online for an 02' but they have done the dreaded intank(worthless)conversion. Oh, well, he explained what needed to happen. Get on his website, download the installation instructions for the 05-07 as this is what I'll need to do for the tank. One free download later and outside I went for the install after a trip to Nashville for a draw straw. Draw straw installltion was easy. Use the proper size hole saw, find out where you want it and you can use vise grips on the hole saw to drill the hole by hand. I stopped before I got thru and used my trusty pocket knife to cut out the rest this way avoiding any debris in the tank and the whole tank removal itself, no, removing the bed was not an option, refer to my gallery. Draw straw sizing just as easy, slow and easy with patience. Cut little bits at a time. Have had my truck down at 1/4 tank with no running out of fuel issues.

The instructions that came with the fuel boss were top notch!!! Again, Richard purely awesome!!! Clear, well taken photo's IN COLOR! The directions were easy to follow and explained bypass and check valve installation easily and clearly. The valves are also clearly marked on the body as to which way they should be installed. Wiring for me was quite simple, unplug my P.O.S intank pump where it splices off to the relay, install adapter for Hobbs switch. I chose to reconnect my intank jobber just to prime the fuel boss, since then I have not heard the intank pump engage at all.

Performance- Well, my truck is not loaded down with goodies, just a puck. The first few days the fuel pressure was kinda up and down, I believe it may have had something to do with air and so on. A month later at idle I'm somewhere around 8-10psi I guess. At crusing speed I'm at a steady 16psi. When I get on it, at first the gauge will drop a few psi, momentarily(seconds) and once the rpm picks up it goes back to positive pressure. Coming off a stop light, as the rpm rises, so does the fule pressure. That is so much better than watching the little arm sink towards zero like originally equipped! I've got the standard drive on mine but I know there is a hyperdrive? available for you high hp folks. The machine work on the mounting bracket, excellent! It comes with a very high quality hose all of your fittings, nothing is left to you running down to the home store to have to buy.

Overall excellent product and I would highly recommend buying this if you want to get away from unreliable electronics. A lifetime warranty is great but in the long run I still have to roll around under the truck, loosing money on downtime to replace the thing. Even though it is more or less free because of warranty, it still costs. Excellent product, very happy I made the purchase and would gladly remove the greens from my wallet again.

Thanks to Lary here at DTR and Thanks to Richard at Glacier Diesel for a top notch product. I'm glad to see folks are still offering high quality products in this country!

Thanks for the post. I have mine sitting in a box and ready for install. I still need to round up a couple of more fittings for my app though, due to the fact that I have a Holley installed by the tank as a pusher. I am also putting a fuel filter before both pumps just to keep anything from getting into my new pump. I would have had it done already if it wasn't for the fact that I had to rebuild my garden tractor. The **** grass won't wait for anyone.

I put the fuel strainer, it's a inline Fleetguard, can't remember part number but it's inline from the tank to the inlet side of the Fuel Boss.
