Okay, so I just watched Jim Carrey's "Grinch" and that line was in it.

Need electric razor advice.

I am going to ask for an electric razor for Christmas. I have an old Braun foil one that tears me to pieces (the few times I have tried to use it). I have shaved with a blade for 20+ years.
Thinking of trying one of those triple rotary head (ala Remington or Norelco) razors. I see they have ones that they recommend for former blade users (they dispense lotion). Anybody gone from blade to something like this (or just a regular dry electric rotary head)? How long did it take to not "feel the burn anymore". I know some of those wet shave/lotion dispensing razors can get expensive to buy the lotion for, but if they work, it is worth it to me.
Open to all comments/suggestions.

What about those "two-cylinder" type electric razors that you see on TV with the little cleaner-stands? Are those any good?

Back when I was 14 I had a three-disc style Remington electric razor that worked horrible, all it ever did was pull and choke on sideburns, and the it got really dirty and disintigrated itself after a few months... I probably just had a defective model, but it's annoying when a $50.00 razor lasts as long as a $5.00 pair of disposibles...



As a corollary, does anybody else have problems knocking the stuck hair out of disposible razors? I use the Gillette dual-blade ones, and when I try to knock the hair our of them the head snaps off before the whiskers are dislodged...

try filling the sink up halfway with hot water and swishing the head of the razor around in the water.

i've never used an electric razor that did what it was designed to do.

my good friend one day asked "hey ryan, what kind of razor do you use? i just tried one of those mach 3 razors after shaving with an electric!"

apparently he'd never used a blade before i use the mach 3 that vibrates, it does the job.

Why do you want to give up the blade? I've tried a couple electrics and they suck imo. Get a pack of good triple blade disposables and have them cryo treated. That pack will last a year at least.

I have used an electric for several years now.
try to shave daily. dont try to shave if you can pull the hair. Dont expect a blade close shave, it will look clean, but have some stubbles. the more you use an electric, the better it will shave and you will get used to having 1/4 of the hairs pulled from the root instead of cut.

I use a lot of cyro'd parts on my crawler, t-case output shaft, r&p and hub parts. We used to break all this stuff on a regular basis, but thanks to cryo we don't break parts anymore

A few years ago I bought my Dad one of the lotion dispensing electric shavers (Philishave I believe it was). He likes it ok, but he'd shave with a rusty butter knife if Mom would let him.

I tried the razor as well and for me, it wasnt much better than the dry type rotary electrics. I still got some razor burn - but hey, Im sensitive.....

I felt that for me, it wasnt worth the expense of getting one. A few months ago, I got an antifog mirror and started shaving in the shower. Works great and is faster than shavin' in the sink.

I've got the Norelco 3 disc rotary with the Nivea lotion dispenser. The lotion does help to not end up with as much razor burn, but there is still a little. And as others have said, you're not going to get a blade close shave with it, but it's good enough to get you to work each day. Before I go anywhere nice, I still pull out the blade

I've got a remington titanium self cleaning electric razor thingy. It works great. Cuts dang close and with a little care and the right motion will make your face as smooth as glass. Then when your done, pop it into it's little holder, push the clean button, and 10 or so minutes later it's clean as a whistle. I love it.

My wife bought me a cheapo Braun, AA battery operated razor about 5 years ago for Christmas and I have used the thing almost every day since !!!

As long as you don't let the hair get too long you will learn to like them. If I skip a day or two ... it's back to the Bic.

Begel .... use plenty of shaving cream and then ... two strokes with the razor and rinse ... two strokes and rinse.
If you do more strokes than that it packs the hair in so tight that you bend the blades and that's when you start looking like a massacre victim .

That's the only way I have been shaving for years. Can't do it in the sink, my neck gets tore up. Still gets tore up in the shower if I shave every day, so I don't. I have to get about a 3 days growth and everything comes off nice and smooth. I was hoping with an electric I could shave everyday and not irritate my neck.

PW: Nothin' like getting a nice close shave (with a nick or two) and walking out onto the flight deck or fantail for morning quarters while underway and having windswept saltwater sting your face
