GFS392 install problem - need help

Well, my dad and I finally got the new pump kit installed (bought from DTR), and now i'm having a bit of trouble with it.

Gauge is showing 17-18 psi at idle.

When hard on the throttle now, it seems to gradually drop the psi down to 0 and the motor hesitates as it gasps for more fuel. When letting off the pedal, the pressure comes right back up.

Next, I noticed when coming to a stop, the pressure drops down to 5-7psi and then back up to 17psi.

My first thought was that the fuel level was too low from doing the install, so I put an extra 5 gallons in it but that made no difference (didnt want to fill up in case I had to pull the tank again).

Then, after re-reading the instructions, I noticed one mistake we made. My dad had me install the inline filter AFTER the pump rather than before it like the instructions say. Could this be the cause of the problem?

The only other thing I can think of is that the fuel level may still be too low and getting air in it when it sloshes (ie when i stop), or that I have a pinched line somewhere. I really dont want to pull that tank again as it was a biotch.

Anyone seen this before and know what the cause might be? Suggestions?

The filter after the pump won't cause your low pressure but you should install it pre-pump to protect the Walbro. With the new feed line in the tank, if the bottom of the line isn't very close to the bottom of the tank you will have the low pressure when the fuel sloshes. Fill the tank and I'm sure your problem will dissappear.

I would double check all your lines for kincks and even the return lines kinked could put back pressure on the system. Did you install the return bypass the correct one . Just check all connections and lines and fill with fuel. If the problem is still happening could be bad pump.

ok i'm in the process of moving the inline filter back to before the pump, just to make sure I dont get any trash in the pump.

and hopefully the pressure fluctuations are just because the tank is low (sitting at almost 1/4 tank according to guage). guess i'll find out in an hour or two

thanks for the help fellas.

just to follow-up, relocating the inline filter and filling it up to 1/2 tank seems to have done the trick. pressure is good now whether stopping or accelerating. we must not have gotten the pick up tube close enough to center or something. oh well, I can live with that for a while.
