Getting timing and gsk done, what else?
I'm getting my timing set to 16.5* and a 3k gsk installed next week. I was wondering if I should have the shop do any other things while it's in there and apart? I plan to order/install gauges then slide the fuel plate forward in two weeks. Any thing else?

I wouldn't do anything else until you have gauges. Once you get those, grind the plate to a 100, or a 10, mod the AFC rack for more travel. Slide the AFC housing forward and obviously throw on a boost elbow to keep your boost at around 32-34 PSI, any more and you'll be pulling the pin on an HX35 Grenade...

I guess I was wondering what should be done while I have someone doing this stuff. Is the front cover off to do the timing? I was told the kdp had been done, but if it's off I'll have him check for sure.

Adjust the valves, change the fuel filter, oil filter, and tranny filter, and all the fluids... cheap insurance, and for what its gonna cost you, make him change the fuel filter, its a PITA thats not worth the $15 he'd prolly charge you. Fuel screen would be another good one to have checked...and the overflow valve aint a bad idea either.

now i have heard that changing the tranny fluid on a high mileage tranny can actually cause the tranny to give up the ghost faster also heard the same thing of adding something like Lucas tranny stop slip is there any truth to any of this

It's due up for an oil change so I'll get that done.
The tranny has only 6000 miles on it and I've already changed the fluid and filter in it to make sure all is well.
I guess I'll have the over flow valve done, I'm on a budget, so I don't know what the valve check would cost any idea?
TO answer another question, should I have them check the kdp while it's getting timing and 3k gsk or does the front cover not have to come off for that?

It shouldn't cost too much to check the fuel pressure. If it's low, you can get a O/F valve from this guy for pretty cheap. I think he charges about $40.

As far as your KDP, there are two ways to fix it. You can drill and tap the timing cover and put a bolt in to hold it in IF it hasn't started to work it's way out. The second way is to tab it and the cover has to come off for that. It's not that hard to do and you can snug up all the bolts under the cover when you have it off.
