View Full Version : Getting boost CEL code lately, why? Too lil' fuel?

I have started to get the CEL for boost. The truck goes into super-slow-limp mode. The Smarty clears it asap.
I am still on the regular REVO. I am going to the REVO/TNT as soon as I can get to a non-Apple computer. Could I be getting this because the standard REVO does not fuel enough to light my larger turbo?
Any ideas?
Thanx.

Large Turbo? Stock fueling should "light" that turbo. Do you see smoke at low rpms or what?

Yes I do see smoke at low RPM's, particularly pre-boost.
Thanx.

More fuel will only make that worse...

I know more fuel will make it smoke more, but won't more aggressive fuel/timing/RP make the turbo boost up faster? Am I backwards on this?
Thanx.

Yes and no...
That is the hard part of tuning. Too much too quick will kill the spool. Too little too slow will kill the spool. Just the right amount too quick will surge...just the right amount too slow...is boring.
It takes a while to fing the right fueling curve and timing for IDEAL performance.
What are your REVO settings?

I did not know that too much will kill the spool. Right now I am running the level 9. I am up one racier notch on rail pressure, torgue management, & I think I have timing stock.
Thanx.
By the way, I still have the Quadzilla boost fooler on & the Smarty wastegate off.
Thanx.

OK...try SW7...RP3...Default Timing...TM2 ....
Then try SW9...RP3...Default Timing...TM1....then TM2.
Bring the fuel in a little slower on the bottom. Does your turbo clear up at what boost? All the way till WOT?

I will try those. Thanx. It clears up good on WOT, on some tunes, I think. Will the regular TNT be better to run?
Thanx.

OK, I just loaded the first one. I can't drive it yet, back is full of gravel. I was on level 9, timing default, TM-3, and RP-2. I also got the code a couple times on vacation & once on the way home. This was regular REVO, level 7, all options on default.
Thanx.

The code needs to be addressed with a Edge EZ or MP-8. Just use level 1 on the Edge or no more than 20% on the MP-8.
Try the settings I said above...
TNT might be too much fuel for that size turbo...figure out Revo first...then try again with TNT.

Thanx for all the info cquestad. What is better, the Edge or MP-8? Prices seem similar on ebay. Is there any negatives to running a pressure box?
Thanx.

I prefer the MP-8 because of its mapping and infinate adjustability. Either is a good choice. A preesure box is a wonderfull mod IF USED CORRECTLY. The key is to dial in 26ksi max...no more no less at WOT.
Do you have a rail gauge? If not...I can point you to the right settings. The Pressure box will fool the overboost code. No more CEL's

I did not know that pressure will kill the CEL. I do not have a rail gauge. I was watching the Quadzilla gauge on ebay, but it seems to be breaking for some people. So an MP-8 will make me happy.
Thanx again for all the great information!

It is not the pressure that does it...it is the boost fooling portion of either box.

a crankcase full of fuel will set a low boost code also due to slow piston speeds!
Got Juice?

Mine does too. 06.
Even with foolers in place. But level 5 on SMARTY at least and no problems.

Too much timing and too little torque management will set the code with a laggy turbo. It seems some of the 2006s have the most problem with this.

OK, got a CEL on the first setting today. I will try the 3rd option next.
Thanx.

Get rid of the boost fooler. Those will cause low boost codes on the 06 trucks. Just let the Smarty do the boost fooling.
