My CTD experiences are with an auto but the old man has a '93 manual (first new vehicle he ever bought new) thats starting to act up again. This is his 4th I think. He's got a little over 100K on the truck, not sure on the tranny itself.

he says it's mostly throw out bearing noise, and harder to shift into gears, especially when stopped, and into reverse.

From your all's experiences, what ill wind blows?

If the clutch isn't getting pushed in far enough for the clutch to release, it would be very hard to shift the gears or even get it into a gear..... if the fingers on the clutch were worn, that could cause the noise plus the reluctance to go into gear....

Check the little plastic bushing where the clutch master meets the clutch pedal,,, It is a little plastic bushing that can wear out, and then the clutch wont disengage properly, It will also wear the steel on the pedal where the two meet, and also the master loop,,,,, Little bushing=big issues!

It sounds like typical symptoms of the throw-out bearing eating it's way through the clutch fingers.

Let's hope it is as simple as the bushing in the operating rod, as explained above.

First thing I would check is fluid level; but, I am sure you already did.

Change out the master and slave cylinder too. Not too pricey. Had to replace mine because they were just worn out (have a lot more miles on mine though). This would keep the clutch from completely disengaging making it hard to shift etc...
