getrag question
my getrag blew up, and a friend sold me the one he took out of his truck when he put in an 4500.
He said it was good accept the pocket bearing in between the main shaft and the input shaft was going bad.
I bought a full bearing kit but only plan on putting in the one bearing. I pulled it appart and he is right, that bearing is worn, and all of the others are great. The tranny was rebuilt with new bearing and syncroes not long before he pulled it out thats why i want to leave everything else.
My question is, can i just replace the bearing and not re-shim the whole tranny?
THanks

You need to check the preload. If it's too tight or too loose you will be back in there again in no time. There's a chance it'll be good with no adjustments, but not a big one.

with all new bearings, I would not chance it. Re shimming is prolly the easiest part of the whole rebuild.

Thanks,
It looks like im going to put the whole rebuild kit in, because i need a new input shaft. So i will follow the directions in the manual and shim it again.
