View Full Version : ****Get ready for Rockingham!****

I spoke with David Dunbar:
NADM has invited NC DTR 18 members to join them August 9th at Rockingham Dragway to race under the lights.[guitar]
So start preparing for this event guys! I would like everyone to make an effort to attend this event whether it be as a racer or cheering from the stands or helping in the pits!
Wouldn't it be great to make this a yearly event? Without good numbers it will be hard to argue that NADM consider it. I'm looking long term to having a yearly NC event.
Start putting the word out to your buddies and family!
Thanks.

Mike:
Thanks for posting the info on this! IMHO,......David Dunbar and his Crew @ NADM are some of the nicest, most professional promoters in diesel drag racing right now and I am really looking forward to their event! And you are right, if we can make this a BIG event, with a great turnout of racers and fans, it would be great to to have it every year!

We are getting closer...
NADM would like to thank Bucks Communication (www.buckscomm.net) for sponsoring the event. It's this kind of help that keeps these events going. Be sure to thank Brian for his support.
Gates will open at 6:00 and we will run til 11:00 or so.
We will have 3 diesel classes with a current total of $4000 in purse to be paid out.
We may have some vendors set-up there, and I will update with that too when available.
Unlimited Street points leader Phil Taylor will be on hand trying to widen his lead over Philip Palmer. Drivers Jeff Garmon, Kevin Meredith and Russell Hilton are in easy striking range too.
Quick Diesel will have a points shake up too. Only 90 points separate leader Matt Wells and 5th place competitor Jim Layden.
ET Bracket not to be outdone is only an 85 point spread between leader Kevin Meredith and 5th place Matt Bergantino.
Ya gotta love competition... [director]

I've stayed at Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn Express, both are nice. Comfort Inn/Suites seems to have a little more secure/lighted parking lot if that matters, but they do cost more.

"August 9 NADM Test/Tune Drag Race
Rockingham Dragway, NC
Arrive 5pm - run til done! Call Dave Dunbar for Info"
By test/tune, do they mean that in the traditional sense as in bring your rig and run it a few times, or is it for racers only? Or will there be an actual sanctioned race?
I'm a bit confused. Either way, I'll have to come and meet some actual diesel guys.
UnrulyNFS
07-15-2008, 07:52 PM
Test n tune is going on in between races. So they'll call up the NADM racers every few minutes. Once those guys run, the test n tuners get to go until the NADM calls for staging again.
Hope to see you there. You won't regret it even if you just watch. I've been hooked since my first event.

I'm gonna go ahead and sneek an HT3B under the HX35 hybrid.
Not to hyjack this thread, and one deosn't have to reply, just read and giggle. [laugh]
I recently asked if anyone was running twins in another forum totaly unrelated to automotive stuff . . .. period. In my intitial post, I explained I'm overfueled given the 35. Blah, blah . . . .
This one fella says . .
You're allready out of fuel, High egt's are usually a sign of too lean of a mix in the combustion chamber, adding the secondary turbo will only increase your egt's. You need to check your pump for maintained pressure at the higher rpm's, Ill bet the fuel pressure is dropping off to the injectors, you probably would do better to have your injector pump checked, of it checks good, with the mods you listed mostlikely a high volume pump would be the next change and re tune.
He goes on to quote that he's running in his mess: 99 2500 4wd, stage 3 injectors and edge attitude programmer. many other mods
I reminded folks to get out of the gasser mentality and gave a breif run-down regarding how the diesel works. Basic at the most. Then gave a detailed list of my mods to date. 195cfm in / 220cfm out O-ringed head, studs, springs, the whole deal.
He replies . .
To the majority of the conditions a diesel operates in you are correct, Diesels have no throtle plate in the air intake to maintain correct air/fuel ratio, essentialy the pulse width timing to the injector controlls how much fuel is injected. With the build that you originally listed the turbo has the ability to pack enough air into the cylinders to cause a lean burn situation and cause excessive egt. Now that the majority of the mods have been revealed, I still would look closely at the fueling. Do you have a blue flame out of the pipes at night ? With all the other mods listed, you are probably right to be looking at a two stage turbo, Just be positive you can feed it sucessfully. I have seen the effects of lean meltdown in a 2nd gen 24 valve isb due to not enough fuel. Fuel management and timing have more to do with egt than air input. Also another thought, from what I have read, aren't you running a little high on the methanol, Remember this is a diesel not an alcohol funny truck!! If you want really cold intake temps and tons of power look at lquid propane injection. Built a first gen to nearly your level, have a second gen 4wd putting 330+ hp and about 625 ft lb torque to the ground, would love to have a new 4th gen, but sticker shock is a killer at 40k+.
Trying to get back to the original topic, I told him thanks and that I'd see him raceday. ;)

To answer a question or two.
NADM usually rents the track for our races. Meaning the only things running are what we allow. In this case NADM is providing a purse and a sanctioned points race for the diesel guys during a track test and tune.
Anyone can run their car at the test and tune. Anyone that wants to race in the diesel classes will sign-up for their class and go after the purse.
I have not totally divided the purse up yet, but am working with a $4,000 budget that we will pay out.
Unlimited Street has points leader Phil Taylor and Super Red, Jeff Garmon in the Silverline Dodge, TS Performance will have Caged Fury there if it is running, and of the Spruills have the Dmax ready, it will be there. But Jess, is also bringing a new addition to the Unlimited class if I understand correctly.[coffee]

Brian B and crew have been working hard on getting his truck back up to snuff. We had a small snafu at our local 1/8 mile a couple weeks back, but all should be right by tonight.
I've encourged Brain to run Pro Street to help fill up the class. He got a little giddy at the thought of racing against Jeff, Phil and everyone else in the field.[laugh]

Cris, not to "steal your thunder" here, but I thought Mike and I thought we could meet for dinner around 3:30-4:00 P.M. That would be about right if we leave Holly Ridge a 12:30 P.M. as you and I had talked on the phone yesterday.

Cris,
I didn't have a plan. My intentions were to see who all was in Rockingham when I got there around 3-3:30 to grab a bite to eat before heading to the track.
P.S. The measurement was around 2.25 or so.

Hey guys,
I have plans to make a DTR video from NADM @ The Rock.
I could use all the tapes I can get my hands on and all the pics that can be emailed to me. So bring your cameras. Lend me your tape if you get any good footage and I'll send it back to ya. Email me all your pics when you get home.
I'm even gonna bring my vehicle camera mounting system and try to talk some of you fools into letting me hang a video camera off your truck or inside for a ride down the 1/4mile.

Lets get back to Keegan wanting to put a camera in your truck.
DON'T DO IT !!!!!!
Something will go wrong with your truck or your run when keegan is involved.
1) John P brakes the tranny in his 02
2) I forget 4wd
3) Johnner forgets 4wd
4) Johnner brakes his seat
I think that more then I needed to list.
Hey Keegan, maybe you can get Daniel to carry one of your cameras in MOBY-DICK[laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh]

1) John P forgot to turn off defueler 1st run, then
2) John P brakes the tranny in his 02 2nd run.
3) I forget 4wd
4) Johnner forgets 4wd, tears out nitrous switch from dash
5) Johnner brakes his seat

You guys are too funny. [coffee]
I took the ol 12v down to Garmon's yesterday and spent a much needed day with her. Bucking the current trend, I took some power away from her :o and changed fluids. This morning, I actually washed the 2007 dirt off her and she doesn't look too bad. [whistle]
Garmon had loaded up the Silverline truck just before I left. ;)
Mike and Robin are coming too to help me out with registration...

I'm getting out of work in Raleigh at 4ish and if traffic isn't so bad I'm planning to make the gate right around 6:00.
I'll be in the 5.9 still so don't have the intervention ready just yet John. I'll be full stock though and just there to have a good time as always.

I hope y'all have a good time,,,,,,,, I'm stuck at work this weekend and there was no way of getting out of it. [verymad] I've only made one event this year and it was the one that got rained out. I had really looked forward to making this event again this year until that ugly three letter word (JOB) [yuk] got in the way at the last minute.
Take lots of pics and y'all be safe,,,,,
I swear I'll make it to Commerce, GA and the other event that y'all are having in NC later this year.

I hated having to miss this event because I had so much fun last year. Unfortunately this Relief job means my work schedule changes from one week to the next and makes it real hard to make definite plans. I'm going to pull the 5er up to around Top's stomping grounds while Wifey and I are on vacation next week so I need to get the truck and trailer ready for some mountain climbing work anyway.
I've already put in for the time off for the Commerce event in Sept and the NC chapter's event in Oct,,,, so I'll see y'all then.
