To get new 6.7 HO or not

I am looking to see what opinions I can get from others here. I am posting this in both the 4 gen forum and the 3rd gen forum to get views from both groups. I have the "new truck fever" and I am trying to decide what to do about it.

What I have:

I have a 2006 5.9L 3500 SLT Mega DRW 4X4 Auto 62k miles. It looks just like the truck in the Diesel Truck Resource banner at the top of the screen except it is bright red. It has airbags, new KYB Shocks, spray in liner, new michelins, Mag Hytec double deep pan and dif covers. It has a gooseneck ball and a 1000 watt inverter in the cab. I also have a 1 piece driveshaft. The motor is stock with no performance mods. It is cleaner than the board of health, and has been an awesome truck. It is my first Dodge Diesel and it has been an awesome tow vehicle for our large race trailer. It is getting the best mileage now that it ever has. Mileage of course is very low while towing, but empty I can get near 20 on flat ground with a very light foot.

The Problem:

I stopped at a dealership when I saw a brand new bright red mega cab Dually 4X4. That truck looks so awesome and I hear from a few friends that have them that they perform so well with the new motor, exhaust brake, and built in trailer brake controls. The inside is super nice and everything just looks so refined compared to mine. Even though I got a little sticker shock when looking at it, I left wanting that truck.

Would I be an idiot to get rid of my truck at this point and pay the extra for the new model? Is it that much better? Is it worth it to give up my truck for the new model with all the emmissions items that are on the new engine?

I don't know what the new ones are like but I just put about 200 miles on my FILs 07.5 this weekend. His 6.7 runs good - much better than mine did when stock but I wouldn't trade. Craig

Why fix it if it aint broke? All that emissions stuff scares me. Sure, you could do all the deletes for a small fortune, but then there goes the warranty.

You gotta do what you feel is right for you. Good luck....an lets see some pics when you get it

62K and you want to trade? Your engine isn't even broken in yet.

I think I have survived the case of "new truck fever" The ether has worn off and I am now content with keeping my ride.

The value of my 03 is rock solid. It has enough power and the best MPG. It's not perfect, cracked dash, some wind noise, audio is so-so. But it's paid for, ins and DMV are low and I know where she's been and how she's been taken care of so till there is a reason I'll stay put. By today's standard it's a simple truck, hubs and all.

I was sitting in the same spot recently thinking seriously about updating to a 2011/3500/4x4. Made the mistake of taking one out for a test drive. Beautiful truck....but,

After doing a few searches and reading so many negative reviews, I quickly scared myself away from the 6.7, the 6 speed auto and that exhaust system. I travel alot and the last thing I need is highway breakdown and have to find a Dodge dealer for repairs...we all know how that will pan out .........But the new interior is awesome!

I guess I will run my '07 5.9 till the paint falls off!

A local diesel repair shop says he is seeing DPF's fail right at 100K. They are not cheep. Told me to wait a few more years to see how the new breed holds up.

I've been thru this recently too. 2011 dually mega Laramie with EVERYTHING Dodge offers. It had a few miles on it and was used so the price was much better than new. It was real tempting but I've been thru the emissions deal with the 08 I used to have and it's really a shame you have to spend all that money just to be able to drive your truck trouble free.
I stuck with my old beater 04 truck with 64,000 miles on it....
Those new trucks are really nice though.....
