Gearing HELP
I have a problem with the rearend gears in my truck, does anyone know of any 3:08 ring and pinions available ? Kinda urgent I get this truck up and running ASAP. Otherwise i will have to change ratios.. Will any of the ratios fit the front axle or will I have to swap out both front and rears to accomplish this change if I cannot locate r&p for the rear ? 90 w250 with the 727 tranny and the 3:08 gearing Thanks in advance Walt..

aren't parts for those axles discontinued?
most guys buy a second axle just for when this happens. That way, they aren't down for a long time.
I could be wrong but it seems that's what I remember reading somewhere or another.

Yes parts a discontinued.
Keep checking the classifieds on all the forums, They did use alot of them because every 89-91.0 auto truck has them and we know how many auto trucks were made over 5spd......
they're out there,

Are the front axle gears interchangable ? as in can I change ratio in the front axle without swapping it out ? I might just drop a 14 bolt FF axle in the rear and change the front gearing to match it..

The front is a Dana 60 used for many years so the gearing is interchangeable. Just remember with the 727 if you change the gear ratio don't go any lower then a 3.23 or 3.55 because your cruising speed is going to be greatly reduced.

Ya I know about the speed...... Plan is to dump an overdrive tranny and drop the gears to 3:55 or so to gain more low end grunt. for plowing without making so much noise in the middle of the night

The rear axle has a offset pinion location also. Your cheapest way out is an axle change out if you can't find an R&P or axle assy.
BTW give me a few days. I know a local guy that striped a 1st gen nonIC 4x4 auto truck last summer. I know the front axle is gone. I am not sure on the rear axle.

They will say on the pumpkin. Mine says "3.54 LS" Or just turn the wheels once and see how many times the shaft rotates. It's most likely a 3.54 or a 4.10 though.
