Gear oil smell when exiting the truck?
I have noticed a gear oil smell ever since my truck was new at times when getting out of the truck. The only thing I found was the transfer case was a little wet (not dripping) just a dusting. Anyone else have this smell and have found something to be wrong. Not sure if it could be coming from the very little and I mean little moisture on the transfer case as it's next to nothing but it is something if that makes any sense. It only has 11K on it and I have to get it looked at but haven't had time.

Oooohh smell that smell, the smell of death surrounds you
Dodge has noted that for a few thousand miles after an engine oil change the truck may smell funky due to something with the position of the air intakes vents right infront of the windshield and burning oil spilled around the fill spout or at the filter gasket.
This sounds different, however - more like what I have experienced. Mine has 9,000 miles on it and I have smelled that on and off but I think it is just the engine or exhaust of the good old Cummins but it does smell like gear oil. I think it is not to be worried about.
