What is the recomended change interval for the GDP 2 micron fuel filter. I am running it in additon to the 7 mic stock, which I am changing every 10k.

I change mine every 15k miles. I change the factory filter every 7.5k miles. I want clean fuel.

I am changing the regular filter every 10k and the 2 micron every 20k.

I thought there was only one fuel filter??? I didn't see anything else in the owners manual.

Are the 2micron filters an aftermarket add on?

Yes it is. Many say the stock setup is insufficient, so I added a layer of protection. Glacier Diesel Power is one of the manufacturers. I believe they are available from this site as well.

Has anyone tracked the pressure drop from new to old for the 2 micron filter? As long as the filter is not blocking flow and the down stream pressure is good and the changing under load, why change the filter? A partly dirty filter will filter better then a new filter. I change the stock filter each oil change only since the stock filter surface area is so small, a little dirt will block flow fast. Since the 2 micron is down stream of the stock (joke) filter and only filtering the 7 to 2 micron dirt, how dirty does it get? Anyone cut open an used 2 micron after say 20k miles? If so, whats the results, photos?

I use the GDP kit and have 22+K on the 2 micron filter. My fuel pressure gauge gets its reading from the banjo bolt fitting on the intake of the cp3, downstream of both the filters. I change the 7 micron at 15K intervals or as I notice a pressure drop, if prior to a normal maint. interval. Pressure goes back to its normal reading. If changing the 7 micron does not return pressure to normal, I know the 2 micron is the culprit. I carry one of each just in case.

Ive read that is not good to change you fuel filter alot since everytime you do your making it possible for all the stuff you filter out to get in and on to the injection pump and injectors. I dont know its true, but just some food for thought.

You can monitor the filter with gauges and only change it when needed. I used to do that on my boat. Filters can clog fast with a bad load of fuel or algae, and they can go for many many miles with good fuel. My Dodge fuel filter hasonly been changed about three times in 100,000 miles. That seems like a lot of miles but they were still working fine. Also, as has been said before, I worry about contamination getting past it during the change.

On the boat the pump sucked through the filter and it was easy to monitor with a vacuum gauge between the two.

I think that is one benefit of running two filters. I just recently changed my stock filter and ran it for a day. The next day, I changed the 2 micron. That way if any sludge came from the stocker...the older 2 micron caught it. Then the new stocker....would catch anything prior to the new 2 micron. With the 2 micron spin on filters I really doubt much of anything could get in it.

I may extend the interval of the 2 micron filter change though, after reading WetSpirit's comments. I bet with the stocker catching anything 10 micron or so..........the 2 micron could go virtually forever. Just a guess. But I still will change it regularly....maybe just not quite as often.
