Gauges

Just got my gauges for my 97 CTD, and i was just wondering what is the normal EGT and when do i need to let off??

What have you got so far? My pyro is red-lined @1300.

well when i'm driving down the road it reads about 6000 and when i'm pushing it it reads about 8000

I'm sure its one less zero there....and is your pyro before or after the turbo? If your pyro probe is placed after the turbo ( like mine is ) add 10 degrees for each pound of boost.

ya 600 and 800 when do i need to back off, when is it getting to hot?

If you are pre-turbo, I'd say 1200 or so. There is quite a bit of info here if you do a search on "pyro", you may find guys hitting higher temps, athough for shorter durations only. I am hitting the same temps as you, but am waiting to load up a trailer and find a hill in these bald hass prairies to see what the pyro will hit on a load.
