Hello, my first post and new to the diesel truck world. Had several diesel vehicles years ago but waiting for delivery of this one. Are any of the get togethers in South Jersey? Are there a lot of members from the South Jersey/Philadelphia region? Nice forum. Trying to learn what I can.

Hey guys, just looking ahead to the warmer months and I have thought of a few possibilities for meet and greets statewide. The CT guys have a coffee night/bs session every Friday if I am not mistaken, so why can't we have something like that? Maybe not every week, but maybe twice a month or so. Here are some ideas I came up with:

1. Island Beach State Park

2. Cruise over to Hooters on 23 in Wayne for Bike Night on Tuesdays

3. Whiskey Cafe in Lyndhurst on Friday nights or Wednesdays (can't remember the exact days)

4. Wyckoff show on Wednesdays.

5. Riverdale Armory - this could be our weekly get together because it is a central location for most of the northern members of this chapter. It would also be easier to get to for those members who have new members of their own familes (Steve and Brian)

6. Setting up a cruise night to Island Dragway.

7. Hooters on 23 in Franklin Lakes.

8. I have gotten the approval to have a wrench day at my mom's office in Verona, so we could get that scheduled when it gets warmer to wrench.

I for one would be willing to travel around to meet a group of members, like say the boys from southern NJ. (Bryan,OneMoparNut,MegaWonder,Raf) if we could establish a central location. Of course, there is always Atlantic City for some poker and buffets, but I'm sure no one is into that.[whistle]

Anyhow, post up any feedback to this.

Sounds good, IN Bordentown,(would this be more centralized??) there's a Chick & Petes Rt. 206,, or Mastories famous Diner RT130,,or a new sports bar next to Mastories,, Its close to the Turnpike,,,RT..206,,etc.

Further South,,in Shamong Twp. you have Pic-a-Lili INN.ON RT 206.for some great Wings..Pretty old place VERY layed back and Rough. or Yet Further South
IN Hammonton you have the Silver Coin Diner Restaurant at Rt. 206 and Rt. 30?

Lots of places from the Turnpike..Exit 5 Burlington, (RT 541), Maybe a state park (Long Bridge park) with pavilion and grill, Exit 4,,Mt. Laurel/Maple Shade (RT73,RT38) I haven't traveled much on the Parkway and do not know whats out there. but thought might help the other Jersey folks with some ideas or suggestions. Anyone else?

Patriot2500

Bordentown/Shamong area is only about an hour or so from me, so that is definetly do-able.

Patriot2500

Something else to think about:

If we got enough guys together with money up front, I think that we could rent out Extreme Diesel for the day and get our trucks on his dyno. I believe they are located in Lakewood (or Lakehurst, the Conductor and I were not sure) but this would be a great day for us to all get together and see what numbers we can hit. We will have to contact them to see what we would need.

goodeyesniper75
12-12-2007, 06:29 PM
im pretty sure its $500 for 6 hours...

goodeyesniper75
12-12-2007, 06:30 PM
sorry $750 for 6 hours

goodeyesniper75
12-12-2007, 06:32 PM

inlinekeith
12-12-2007, 08:54 PM
hopefully i can make it to Ebers but might be plowing$$$$$$$$$$$$:)
that sounds good $50

Patriot2500
12-13-2007, 06:31 AM
I think $50 is very reasonable for some pulls.

goodeyesniper75
12-13-2007, 06:45 AM
but we would have 6 hours......thats a lot of time i think. so we could get more people. I will find out what kinda time they need for booking it and this time people are pre-paying.

Patriot2500
12-13-2007, 09:12 AM
Absolutely. People need to prepay this time with the stipulation that once they pay, the money is non-refundable. I also agree about the time, but it will probably take a few minutes per truck to get it ready to roll, so 6 hours will probably fly by. Time flies when your having fun you know.

Anyway, to all those plowing today, be careful and make that almighty dollar.

You guys want to do another Hooters night next Friday 12/21?

mikmaze
12-14-2007, 05:58 PM
sounds possible, I do not think I am gonna torture myself with the 911 sauce this time tho, man they poured it on heavy last time, too much to be enjoyable, but I ate em all. As for the dyno, even if we got ten people up front, thats only 75 bux each.

Patriot2500
12-14-2007, 06:59 PM
$75 works for me as well. Steve, could you find out if it is open to cars as well? I may have some friends of mine with Mustangs that would roll down.

Mike, we don't want another Friday of you sweating and putting those Coke's down like it is your job. How did you do with the white stuff?

mikmaze
12-15-2007, 07:09 AM
white stuff miserry, worked 4 pm till 2 am, then back in at 7 am and worked till 2 pm.... only thre hours of Friday was clearing snow, the rest was fixing cleaning and fueling. how bout you ?

Patriot2500
12-15-2007, 10:48 AM
Had two carnages from Thursday: #1 - scratched the left side of my truck plowing the office on Route 23 due to these huge bamboo trees hanging into the parking lot. Will be going soon and cutting them down. #2 - my trusty salt spreader finally took a dump and broke. But hey, 15 saltings with a spreader meant for grass seeds is pretty good to me.

Okay, so we are on for next Friday at Hooters in Wayne at 8pm. Can someone post this over on TDR?

If you guys don't have anything planned, tonight at 7:30 at the South Mountain Arena in West Orange is a charity hockey game for a friend of mine who passed away. Doors open around 6:30 and the game starts at 7:30. It is a fundraiser for two scholarships setup in his name for West Essex High School and Ramapo College. Alumni from both places come and play a regular hockey game. If you guys can make it, great. I understand if you cannot due to the last minute notice of this.

Well, this one has sat long enough, how many folks want to seriously book a day at eXtreme diesel performance, for a dyno day, I would be willing to call them and talk about available dates, but I would like to get two days that would be good for as many as possible, giving XDP the chance at picking which is best for them as well. i will be asking them what all will be available as well, like installation of any parts on hand that mite be for sale. I would like to pick a day, early weekend in April, those of us getting a tax return should have it in hand by then, lord knows if they owe me money I am gettin it as fast as possible! Only thing that could kill this for me would be snow. Let me know what you all think, get in touch with as many friends as you can, other forums are welcome to tag along, and even other makes / motors.

goodeyesniper75
01-04-2008, 07:21 PM

Okay, Sunday looks like a definite wrenching day. I just talked to Bryan and he is taking his plow off his truck this weekend as he is saying goodbye to it on Monday. And I have my air horns to install, so we have stuff to throw on. Is anyone planning on making it? I will probably be able to host it right on 23 in Verona. It is about 10 minutes south of Willowbrook Mall just in case anyone does not know where it is. I will post up a definite location as soon as I get the okay.

mikmaze
01-09-2008, 05:12 PM
ha, I had to tackle front pads tonight, too bad the weekend could not come soon enough...... dam squeelers were makin me cookoo....... Love havin air tools when it comes to all thos friggin lug nuts, but I sure wish I knew what happened to my big c clamp, still haven't found it and that would have been the one thing that would have got me done in under 20 minutes. I actually plan on being there as of now. I never know what work will bring right on up till Friday though.
I already ran it by the significant other and she doesn't have school that night.

Keith I see you downgraded your wish list. What happened to that big ol' twin set? That would of been a problem to drive on rt. 23 at rush hour anyway.:)

Angelo, would it be better for you if we met up in Franklin or does it not matter to you?

What ever is easier for the majority of people planning to attend. My truck could use a good run to clean it out. Since the wife went back to school I've been like Mr. Mom running the kids around and the truck never gets up to temp.... I'm fine with Wayne

Patriot2500

mikmaze
01-26-2008, 10:20 AM
Wayne would make it possible for Keith too, he said he would be on his way from NYC to Hooters, Wayne is a good bit closer........ come on warmer weather, got toys to install ! to top that off, my coin jar is almost full, and I think that mite go towards tranny work!

My 62/14 is at MPI now and I should have the kit in the next week or two. As to when there installed is anyone's guess. I might be able to use a friends garage or I'll have to wait till it's warm.

Gary even if your not in your truck, still come on down if you can make it. So I guess Hooters in Wayne it is?

mikmaze
01-28-2008, 02:13 PM
since no one else jumped up and asked for it anywhere else, I guess it will be Hooters, trying to give folks a chance at picking one a bit closer for them, but hey, I am sure they know where the one in wayne is......... I gotta remember, no more 911 just the three mile island sauce !

Well those were some killer boneless wings, and a good night out as well. I should have done it today, but most likely will disconnect the quad box tomorrow, I am getting a helluva rattle again and even tho there was no check engine light, I got a 191 code when I checked.... will see what a few days of driving without the box does to the code,a nd driving habbit of the motor. Man I tell ya, I am getting a bit tired of it, checked all the wires in the quad switch and they are good, ran the same withthe bypass installed, but that was just around the block. wonder if a smarty would act differently? I sure like the war weather today, need one on a weekend soon for another wrench day, maybe this time getting something done on my truck. Good to see some new faces out the other nite, as well as the usual bunch.

Patriot2500
02-06-2008, 08:13 PM
Yeah nice to see more than the usual crowd showed up the other night. Buddy Tom got his exhaust on and I believe is ordering his lift pretty soon. Should look pretty sweet.

I need to get a new air filter for my truck. Anyone know where I can get a cone style filter with a 4" opening? Friend suggested a BHAF, where do you get one of those? Also, I ordered an AFE Bladerunner intake manifold today, so I will have something to go on the truck on our next wrench day. Will probably have to do brakes on my truck as well. 82k and still on the stockers....

well my plans just got crushed, got off the phone with Extreme diesel parts and they have all the goodies you could ask for, but do not yet offer instalation at their building, nor do they have the dyno setup in the new location. so , no installs, and no dyno day at their place as it stands, or for quite some time, dang, I get real wrapped up and ready to go spend money, and then this, now I gotta figure out who else I can trust. I kind of decided on an ATS 5 star converter, but next nearest distributor is in Walden NY, at a racing shop I have never dealt with. Man this bites. No we gotta get together and talk about this and figure out my next plan, I need to do it soon so I can take off say a friday, before we get busy, and have it installed while I wait.

Why not go with Fischer trans? Order the converter and then let them install it. They may cut you a break since you work for Sponz.

Got my manifold today, looks pretty simple to install. Now I just need a day like yesterday to throw it on. Also got some new brake pads on the way...figure I should do them after 83k on the stockers.

I kind of decided on an ATS 5 star converter

If your going to do a converter you better do a valve body also! You will need the higher pressure the valve body supplies. When I have to re-do my trans I'm going with Goerend. Their triple disk converter comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Also If you don't already have a deep trans pan I would also purchase one. I went with a double deep. Heat kills!
Here (http://www.goerend.com/internalparts.php) is a price sheet.

Definitely do a valve body too. You'll probably have to do a different front lever too, I've gone to billet ones on my transmissions to prevent the lever from breaking with the extra pressure pushing on it and having no 2nd gear.

What happened? You know who's not holding up?

No, It's holding. I've made about a dozen passes at the track so far and it doesn't slip at all.(1.74-2.0 60') I just hate not knowing what's really inside. The latest converter is nice and tight (1700-1800) It's just with the new twins going on in the Spring I don't know how long my luck will last. I'm supposed to go back and have the valve body modified again after the twins are on.

Wish me luck!

yes a valve body would go in at the same time, as for fischer, I am trying to get around the core charges, figure a place that sells it and installs it, might not core me to death, if there is no alternative, I may end up down there, a 1.5 hr drive to CT is not out of the question , I have seen a few of those CT boys work, they don't mess around, they do it! I kind of want a place familiar enough about the truck, the converter and the smarty to know how much to set the valve body pressure to so they all work as well as they can together. sleepinwithmyfingerscrossed, thatbigbrowntruckbetterstopbymetomorrow :D

OK, finally got off my duff and installed the smarty, takin it easy to start with, under stock turbo and injectors, I loaded up mild torque management, and then proceded to install catcher # 2, 60 hp, no added timing, figure the rocktech sensor is enough for now. Cleared my stored 191 code and let it finish its thing. Started up and gave it a good tap on the peddle, whoa, whats this ? black snow bank :D Ok, took it for a drive, now even just the 60 hp program ut it feels like a totally different truck, and boy if ya mash it off the line does it kill skeeters ! Very controlable via right foot. Went by Tom's place and took him for a ride, will let him give his own comnet. so far I like it, but now I have a 148 code, P0148 High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) Fueling Error Checksum and don't know why, it is not a dirty fuel filter, changed that last week. 191 may have been there from the quad race, and would not go away.

Green04HO
02-23-2008, 12:55 PM
Mike,

It's time to upgrade your lift pump. Now! That code means you are starving the Cp3 of fuel. If you keep starving the CP3 it won't have enough excess fuel to use for cooling purposes and damage to the Cp3 will occur.
It could have been a dirty fuel filter, but you said you just changed it.
Ya wanna play ya gotta pay!

I would not wait if I were you. CP3's are expensive! At the least I would geat a fuel pressure gauge to monitor pressure to the CP3. Atleast then you would be able to tell when you had low pressure. And I would do this yesterday.

Mike, it sucks when the fuel system goes out man. Thats what happened to me on the way home from vacation last summer. Not a fun ride home, thats for sure.

Let me tell you guys, if I can sell my BullyDog I will definetly be investing in a Smarty. On the 60hp setting, the power seems much smoother and better than my BullyDog on the 90hp setting. Mike's truck definetly smokes A LOT more than my truck, but not too much that its annoying. Mike got a great deal on it, and he sure has enough literature on the Smarty in the truck with him. It sure pays to do your homework and be on the computer at the right time.

well that is one heckuva driveway you have there, I gotta say, I like usin 4 wheel low to creep down. It was a good time, and yeah I had a good time. I didn't do much today, takin it easy on the truck till the new pump arrives, I mite even head into a place in caldwell and see what they have available. For peace of mind I have been driving the truck at or below 2 k rpm so as not to place high flow demands on an obvioulsly weak system. If they have something complete, I mite grab it and return the one I have on the way. The one I have coming plugs into power from the original, and mounts on the frame rail, so if they have anything, it has to be equally easy to install.

Patriot2500

Pat, definetly silicone around the lights and under the lights to prevent leaks. Most guys are hardwiring those cab lights in, and I can honestly say that the connectors on those things suck. I have replaced two of them already because the connectors have gone bad. I think at our wrench day, I will be hardwiring mine as well as my other stuff.

Do we have a possible wrench day date?

Hey guys, in the market for a CB now. What brands do you suggest? I am not going to be sitting in the truck all night talking to Sputnik, but I would like one for long trips to PA and such. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know Cobra was always a big name with them, not sure if anything has changed, or if there is better out there. I have been thinking of one for the same reason, especially since there is no cell phone service for the majority of the trip I make...

mikmaze
03-08-2008, 08:46 AM
Cobra makes some nice small units, not sure if you are looking to add to it between the unit and the antenna, but installing a compact unit would be easier than a god awful bulky beast. I talked to Keith last night about his smarty, but I can not for the life of me remember which driver to install so not wanting him to screw it up, gave up. Looks like wer are out of the rain for now, but more on the way, dangit, I got a tv to run up to my sister's house but no way in the rain, too big for back seat ! TOM, this is the small cobra, almost fit in the cubby under the radio! http://cgi.ebay.com/Cobra-40-Ch-CB-Radio-19-DXIV-DX-IV-Radios-NEW_W0QQitemZ290212570398QQihZ019QQcategoryZ40055Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Mike, that looks like it would be perfect for my needs and for $50 I don't think I can go wrong. I think I am going to put two antennas on the BackRack, probably one just for show. As for next weekend, I would like to get that intake manifold on and my new brake pads in. However, if the majority is headed down to that show, than maybe I will just head down there as well.

mikmaze
03-08-2008, 12:03 PM
heck if the show gets boring, we could put that intake on right there in the lot. as for the brake pads, heck, they could go on too. Just bring a good sized c clamp as I can still not find mine for compressing the pistons !

OMG, where is the shiftin gears layin rubber smiley ?????? freakin tranny is soooooooo different its like a new truck, with a fresh set of steel OO. Late and I gotta get goin to work but what a difference, Best part is on the way out I reset the overhead mpg, 18.8 mpg. Reset onm the way home, 20.5 mpg. Now I know its just the overhead, but thats not just some fluke, and its not all down hill on the way home, same route, same roads Nothing changed. Took a looooong day to finish, parts on the truck like bein where they were, and Dodge changed a tollerance inside that ended up making them have to mahine down one of the final clutches.....20 thou had to come off. Good bunch of guys that worked their buts off all day and all nite. Got there at 8:15 am, left there at 11:45 PM. two hours drive is all and they are ready for the next truck. talk more later I gotta jet.

Well if you had a twin setup in you basement collecting dust, wouldn't you be getting antsy?!:o

I actually talked to him about that the other day on the phone. That is pretty much going to be a weekend long ordeal, or so it seems. I think he said he was told like 10-12 hrs. for an experienced installer, so that should give a pretty good idea of what it might take a bunch of newbs. Seems like the idea would be a Friday night tear down at a minimum. That way Sat. is entirely devoted to reinstalling, and you have Sunday if needed. This may be an overage for time, but expect the worst, hope for the best.

seems to me that i would take the exhaust manifold off the truck, install the twins onto that, then bolt it back on the block, and then all the big tubes go on and oil line / return.

If it was only that easy![laugh] You need to disassemble the new turbos for the install and then clock them to the right position. You need to install new heater core feed line and trans. dipstick tube, bend some other lines out of the way and relocate the grid heater relays and after all that you have to make the new 5" downpipe work with the 4" exhaust.

As to bolting the turbo's to the manifold and then installing...... I guess you would have to pick the manifold and two turbo's up seperately to appreciate how heavy the are. I believe the big one weighs approx. 55lbs while the little one weighs 38lbs.

I'm going to say Pat is right on with the time. It always takes longer the first time around. I would like to have it finished by Sunday on the weekend I do it so I have some time to play with the wastegate tuning.

If this doesn't keep my EGT's in check I'm done![roll][duhhh]

See, this is a big job, and should be approached as such. Next Friday, we will discuss and plan things over some hot beer and cold wings (I got that right didn't I gus?) Then when the time comes, we will need more beer to get back into that frame of mind, and this being a big job requires big beer. I am thinking 1/4 barrel at least. Thoughts?[laugh]

Kidding, IDK if I would mix alcohol with this kind of job. lot of $$$ at stake, too much can go wrong IMO

just came to mind; Angelo, you ended up buying a new torque wrench to do the headstuds didn't you? Seems to be what I remember you saying, that is if my memory is right, which it tends not to be[duhhh]
