G56 Owners FYI: Amsoil vs. Valvoline
I switched out my Amsoil ATF+4 today for Valvoline. The shifting difference is night and day. It shifts like a BMW again. I still have the Amsoil in the transfer and diffs but my tranny didn't like it.

I had the same experience with Amsoil. My truck doesn't shift worth a darn when its cold. I tried Amsoil to see if that would help. If anything it got worse. Back to Valvoline ATF+4.
If its going to be hard to shift either way,I may as well use the less expensive fluid.

Noticeable difference?
Do you guys feel a noticeable difference once you change out the stock fluid. I have about 170,000 on the stock fluid. I bought everything to change it out, but once I checked it, it looked fine, so I put it off for a while. Plus, its a PITA to get to the fill plug around the exhaust pipe.

I use an old washer fluid jug I saved.
The service interval is 60K IIRC. I'd be changing the fluid out regardless of whether it'll shift better.

I've used Mopar ATF+4, Castrol ATF+4, and Redline C+ ATF in my G56. The Castrol ATF+4 has been the best in my experience, and it's also the least expensive, and widely available. The Mopar ATF+4 looked pretty done when I'd change it--a dark brownish-red. But the Castrol under the same conditions always drains out looking bright red, like new.
I had to cut down the hex socket to remove my fill plug so it would clear the exhaust pipe, otherwise it's pretty easy to remove. Then I use one of those flexible fill hoses that screws onto a quart oil bottle to fill 'er back up. I jack up the right side of the truck a bit and fill it until it's dribbling back out, then button it back up.

Sounds good! I think I'll try jacking up the right side like you said, just to get a little extra in. I think that would be easier than taking the boot off.
